Job Description
The Maintenance Mechanic performs intermediate maintenance tasks including equipment repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance with limited supervision.
- Observe, troubleshoot, inspect, adjust and repair mechanical devices used in operations.
- Start devices to test performance.
- Examine physical conditions (form, texture, heat, noise) of parts to detect problems.
- Dismantle devices to gain access to/remove/repair/replace defective parts.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and controls to identify correction.
- Repair electrical equipment.
- Initiate purchase order for parts and machines.
- Lubricate and clean parts.
- Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Set up and operator lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metal working tools to make and repair parts.
- Operating a forklift for the maintenance, production, and shipping departments.
- General plant cleanup, including but not limited to, sweeping with push broom and vacuuming warehouse floors, cleaning hoppers and taking waste to the landfill.
- Picking up trash on plant property, painting, cutting/pulling weeks, operate the water and/or dump truck, moving empty and loaded trailers as required using the yard truck.
- Filing paperwork, assisting with inventory counts, data entry, quality analysis/equipment calibrations, and equipment monitoring/inspections.
- Conduct safety audits and attend/assist with training/presentations as required Additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 3-6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High level of safety and quality.
- Ability to multi-task at a fast-pace (at times), work in outside conditions during all seasons, climb multi-levels by stairs & ladders, work from elevated platforms, use hand tools (shovel, hammer, wrenches, etc.).
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Mine Safety and Health (MSHA) Knowledge - Preferred.
- Forklift experience - Preferred.
- Computer Software - Preferred.
- Warehouse experience - Preferred.
- Previous Manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Follows policies and procedures, responds to management direction.
- Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan. Prioritizing and plans work activities.
- Strives to increase productivity.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and dive in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to use word processing software, spreadsheets, email and internet.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- 3-6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
