Planning Manager
About the Role
Planning Manager supports cross-Project coordination, milestone synchronisation, escalation and acceptance preparation. It supports Hitachi’s obligation to define, plan, manage and carry out the Design and Implementation Period and to adhere to the Contract Management and Governance Model. Its specific contribution is to develop and maintain integrated schedule; critical path analysis; look-aheads; resource logic support; acceptance planning support.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain the integrated master schedule, critical path, milestone logic, progress measurement rules and schedule basis documents.
Collect progress from work packages and suppliers, challenge forecast optimism and convert slippage into recovery options.
Integrate customer review periods, site access windows, procurement lead times, FAT/SAT activities, commissioning windows and handover dependencies.
Provide schedule impact analysis for variations, claims, access constraints, design changes and supplier delays.
Report float consumption, critical risks, lookahead constraints and recovery-plan effectiveness to Governance forums.
Apply the Hitachi Code of Conduct in role-specific decisions, including ethical escalation, anti-bribery discipline, confidentiality, data protection, fair supplier/customer conduct and transparent records.
Acceptance planning support.
Owns integrated schedule and schedule updates within approved logic.
Can drive re-planning and propose mitigation.
Escalates critical-path or milestone threats.
Key Interfaces
Project Manager, PMO, VO/Claims/Change Manager, Contract Manager, Finance Controller and Risk Manager.
Engineering, Work Package Leaders, Supply Chain, Procurement, Implementation, IVVQ, T&C and O&M readiness teams.
Customer planners and key suppliers/subcontractors.
Risks & Opportunities Manager.
Schedule reviews.
Authority & Accountability
Accountable for schedule quality, baseline integrity, progress logic and transparent forecast reporting.
Authorised to challenge progress claims, request recovery plans and escalate unrealistic or unsupported dates.
Cannot change contractual milestones alone; recommends baseline or milestone changes through Project Governance.
Mandate
Provide schedule intelligence that enables proactive Project control, credible reporting and defensible commercial positions.
Skills & Experience
Expertise in Primavera P6 or Oracle Primavera Cloud and critical-path methodology.
Experience with railway access constraints, engineering/procurement integration and commissioning planning.
Ability to communicate schedule risk to both technical teams and executives.
Resilience and resistance to stress during schedule recovery, claims analysis and milestone pressure.
Analytical rigour, persistence and constructive challenge.
More than 5 years on complex infrastructure planning.
Strong interface with risk and change processes.
