Job Description

Overview The Product Line Lead for Cargo collaborates with the Head of Ocean Marine to shape the product strategy, monitor portfolio performance, and govern AXA XL’s Cargo line within Ocean Marine

This role partners with underwriting, risk control, claims, regulatory & compliance, legal, and cross-functional teams to design, launch, and maintain competitive products and underwriting guidelines that deliver profitable growth, regulatory compliance, and superior client outcomes

The role also mentors and develops talent within the Cargo product cohort and represents AXA XL in industry forums, broker engagements, and client conversations

What you’ll be doing What will your essential responsibilities include

Engage across the Cargo product line to support the strategy and portfolio performance for cargo transit and stock throughput

Help set pricing approaches, risk appetite, product governance, and guidance to enable profitable growth and market competitiveness

Partner with underwriting leadership to develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, policy language, endorsements, and quality audits; ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and internal controls; translate strategy into actionable practices

Manage the product lifecycle from ideation through launch and ongoing refinement in collaboration with actuaries, pricing, and analytics to monitor performance, identify opportunities, and implement improvements

Monitor market trends, competitor offerings, and client needs to keep cargo at the forefront; proactively identify cross-sell opportunities and integrated solutions with other AXA XL lines

Work with cross-functional teams (Risk Control, Claims, Legal, Regulatory & Compliance, Reinsurance, Marketing) to align on product positioning, disclosures, risk management plans, and client communications

Mentor and develop talent within the Cargo product team and across Underwriting; identify training needs and deliver targeted modules

Coordinate portfolio management and governance for the Cargo book, focusing on loss prevention, risk selection discipline, and adherence to underwriting guidelines

Represent AXA XL Cargo at industry events, conferences, broker meetings, and with insureds to strengthen market presence and partnerships

Collaborate with Global Ocean Marine leadership and other regions to share best practices, opportunities, and strategic initiatives

Ensure timely execution of regulatory filings, disclosures, and information requests related to Cargo products

You will report to Head of Ocean Marine

What you’ll bring We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills: BA/BS degree or equivalent; professional designations such as CPCU, RPLU, ARM, or equivalent preferred

Extensive Cargo underwriting, product development, and regulatory/filing experience; proven ability to translate technical underwriting knowledge into actionable product guidelines and training

Demonstrated leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to influence across functions and at all levels

Robust communication and collaboration skills; ability to draft policy language and concise product documentation

Strategic, data-driven thinker with market awareness and the ability to manage competing priorities

Familiarity with cross-sell opportunities and integrated product solutions within a global marine context

Willingness to travel as needed to meet with clients, brokers, and internal partners

The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 132,200-257,100

Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location
