Every great dish relies on a strong foundation. As a Savory Team Member at the Haymarket Commissary, you are the primary force behind our daily culinary prep and production. Your mission is to safely and accurately execute our savory recipes, ensuring our markets and stores stay fully stocked with world-class products.

If you are a dependable cook who loves a steady rhythm, takes pride in a spotless kitchen, and wants to collaborate with an excellent culinary team on Main Street, we want to hear from you!

What You'll Do

This is a active, hands-on cooking and prep role where sticking to established procedures keeps our kitchen running efficiently and prevents product loss.

  • Execute Prep and Production: Follow savory recipes exactly and prepare ingredients safely and correctly.

  • Manage Smart Storage: Label and store food products properly to prevent cross-contamination, mold, or out-of-date waste.

  • Keep a Clean Kitchen: Maintain a clean, orderly workspace and jump in with the team to tackle larger kitchen cleaning tasks.

  • Master the Gear: Safely use standard kitchen tools and high-volume equipment like the Vita-Prep, Robot Coupe, mandolines, and knives.

  • Problem Solve: Identify, report, and correct basic production or food quality issues right away.

  • Support the Network: Help out with making order drops and deliveries to our various markets and stores when needed.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Experienced: You have at least 2 years of experience as a line cook or prep cook (commissary experience or culinary/vocational training is a big plus).

  • Skilled: You bring solid basic knife skills, can identify a wide range of food products, and know how to operate professional kitchen equipment.

  • Safety-Minded: You understand standard health and safety guidelines (having a Food Handlers License is preferred) and know how to safely use cleaning chemicals.

  • Methodical Team Player: You prefer a predictable, steady pace of work, make careful "by-the-book" choices, and communicate politely and professionally with your team.

  • Educated: You hold a high school diploma or equivalent.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Kitchen roles are highly active and require excellent physical stamina. To succeed in this role, you must be able to:

  • Stand and walk on your feet for long shifts (8–10 hours per day).

  • Perform frequent physical movements, including twisting, bending, squatting, and reaching.

  • Safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Use your hands skillfully for fine manipulation, single grasping, pushing, and pulling.

  • Safely use knives, ladders, and pallet jacks.

  • Work comfortably in wet or dry conditions, as well as extreme temperatures ranging from walk-in freezers (<32°F) to hot ovens (up to 500°F).
