Job Description

Putting people first, every day

BDO is a firm built on a foundation of positive relationships with our people and our clients. Each day, our professionals provide exceptional service, helping clients with advice and insight they can trust. In turn, we offer an award-winning environment that fosters a people-first culture with a high priority on your personal and professional growth.

Your Opportunity

Our Business Resilience team is growing, and we are looking for a Manager, Business Resilience to join BDO's National Business Resilience practice. This is a new delivery leadership role at the heart of a fast-growing national practice. As Manager, you will lead and deliver high-quality consulting engagements using an all-hazards, integrated approach spanning risk assessment, business impact analysis, business continuity, IT disaster recovery, crisis and emergency management, crisis communications, and training, testing, and exercises.

You will own client engagements end to end, lead and mentor a team of consultants, and ensure the consistent, high-quality delivery of the work that drives the practice forward.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and Deliver Engagements

  • Lead the delivery of complex business resilience engagements end to end, including BCM program development, business impact analyses, business continuity and disaster recovery plans, crisis management frameworks, emergency management plans, and climate risk and resiliency assessments.
  • Facilitate workshops, tabletop exercises, and full-scale simulations with client stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership.
  • Develop and apply methodologies, tools, and templates aligned with ISO 22301, CSA Z1600, ISO 22317, DRII Professional Practices, and BCI Good Practice Guidelines.
  • Actively use AI and digital tools to accelerate research, synthesis, proposal development, and client deliverables, and help embed an AI-forward, innovative approach across the practice.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet quality standards and are delivered on time and on budget.

Manage Client Relationships

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients at all levels, serving as a trusted advisor throughout the engagement.
  • Execute client service plans for complex engagements in close collaboration with the practice lead and engagement partners.
  • Anticipate client needs and identify opportunities to add value across the engagement.

Lead and Develop the Team

  • Manage, coach, and mentor consultants and senior consultants, maximizing their potential and supporting their professional growth.
  • Take a leadership role in creating a working environment that promotes learning, collaboration, and a strong team culture.
  • Support resourcing and capacity planning across engagements.

Contribute to Practice Growth

  • Contribute to business development through proposal development, client pursuits, and identifying opportunities within existing engagements, as directed by the practice lead.
  • Support the continued build-out of the national Business Resilience practice.

How We Define Success for This Role

  • You consistently deliver high-quality work that clients describe as professional, insightful, and impactful.
  • You lead engagements and teams that deliver on time, on budget, and to a high standard.
  • You contribute to an inclusive, engaging environment that develops and retains talent.
  • You actively adopt and champion AI and digital tools to drive efficiency, innovation, and higher-quality solutions in client delivery and across the practice.
  • You grow your expertise through continuous learning and professional development.

Your Experience and Education

  • University degree, preferably in a risk, emergency management, business, or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a practitioner in business continuity, emergency management, crisis management, or business resilience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience managing engagements and teams in the mentioned areas.
  • Experience delivering across one or more target industries: Financial Services, Public Sector, Energy and Natural Resources, Manufacturing and Distribution, Not-for-Profit, and Real Estate.
  • Experience supporting a professional services firm in building an advisory practice, including proposals, client pursuits, and the sales process, is an asset.
  • Professional designations preferred: MBCP, CBCP, CBCI, MBCI, or ISO 22301 Lead Auditor.
  • Knowledge of business continuity, emergency management, and risk standards and regulations (ISO 22301, CSA Z1600, ISO 22317, DRII, BCI).
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to anticipate and resolve issues, manage budgets, and coordinate multiple workstreams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
  • A background in the military, police, fire, or other critical-service or emergency-response fields is a strong asset. The leadership, discipline, and judgment under pressure developed in those environments translate powerfully into business resilience work.
  • Comfort and demonstrated experience using AI and digital tools to enhance research, analysis, and delivery is a strong asset. We are an AI-forward practice that actively integrates these tools into our work.
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset.
  • Government of Canada security clearance or the ability to qualify is an asset.

The expected range of compensation for this role is $88,000-$134,000 annually.
