Job Summary
Summary - Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data.Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelor's degree have a grace period of six months from their hire date (up to 1 year if starting per diem) to provide degree equivalency verification.

Essential Functions
-Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
-Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
-Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
-Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
-Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
-Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.

Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment 1-2 years preferred

- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures, results, and challenges.

The Research Lab Tech 1 in the Harvard Retinal Imaging Lab involves both research and administrative responsibilities. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Lab Tech 1will focus on developing and carrying out the research in retinal disease. The candidate will contribute to ongoing research to improve retinal disease diagnosis and treatment.
Administrative duties, include (but are not limited to) maintenance of pre charting clinics, labeling potential study subjects, coordinating study visits with clinical staff, and attends study staff meetings.
- Design and perform AMD and retinal imaging research trials
- Maintain HRPP status with ongoing and future studies with local IRB
- Screen, consent and recruit potential research patients
- Imaging and Functional Test Capture and Analysis
- Review patient data
- Perform bio-statistical analysis
- Write abstract and articles for publications
- Organize weekly lab meetings and presentation schedule
- Recruit and onboard new trainees to the research team (college and medical students, residents and fellows)
- Grow underrepresented minority mentorship and research programs within the Harvard Retinal Imaging Lab
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Identify, recruit, consent and image study subjects
- Perform data entry to study logs and file relevant study visit data
- Read, analyze and summarize published literature
- Develop an understanding of clinical research
- Attend relevant meetings
- Meet regularly with mentor to review project progress and milestones
- Write a final report describing the project and results
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of medical terminology helpful. Excellent interpersonal skills. Knowledge of experiment planning, computer skills, and data analysis skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Well organized and detail-oriented. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Tech savvy.
