Description:
The Public Works Department is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Right-of-Way Inspector to support the Engineering Division's infrastructure and construction projects. This position is responsible for inspecting construction activities. The Right-of-Way Inspector serves as a liaison between the City, contractors, utility companies, and residents to ensure construction work complies with approved permits, plans, City ordinances, policies, and engineering standards. The position requires regular field inspections, coordination with project managers, and daily office presence to support project administration and customer service functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections, or assist in conducting inspections, of sidewalks, streets, curbs, gutters, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and other public infrastructure construction projects.
- Inspect right-of-way construction activities performed by private contractors and utility companies to ensure compliance with permits, approved plans, specifications, City ordinances, and policies.
- Perform field inspections of pavement cuts, street excavations, driveway entrances, sidewalks, utility manholes, conduits, culverts, and related improvements.
- Document inspection findings and maintain accurate records of construction activities and compliance issues.
- Respond to citizen inquiries, complaints, and concerns regarding construction projects, right-of-way activities, City ordinances, and departmental policies.
- Coordinate with contractors, utility representatives, engineers, project managers, and other City departments to facilitate project completion and regulatory compliance.
- Review permits, plans, diagrams, complaints, and work orders to determine inspection requirements and priorities.
- Monitor construction activities for adherence to safety requirements, approved traffic control measures, and restoration standards.
- Provide information and assistance to the public regarding City policies, ordinances, and construction-related activities.
- Prepare reports and correspondence related to inspections, violations, corrective actions, and project status.
- Attend meetings and coordinate daily with the right-of-way manager, and project managers on assigned projects.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED; experience in street or similar construction; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary skills and knowledge. A valid Driver's License is required.
Salary Range:
$27.44/hr.
