Position Overview
The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing complex laboratory testing across multiple specialties to support patient diagnosis and treatment. This role requires a high level of accuracy, technical expertise, and adherence to regulatory standards. The technologist will perform analyses, validate results, maintain laboratory instruments, and ensure compliance with safety and quality assurance protocols.
Key Responsibilities

Perform diagnostic testing in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, microbiology, urinalysis, coagulation, and serology/immunology.

Validate, analyze, and report accurate test results to support timely patient care.

Conduct quality control checks, instrument calibration, and proficiency testing to ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards.

Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory analyzers and equipment, coordinating repairs and maintenance as needed.

Support blood bank operations, including blood typing, antibody screening, compatibility testing, and managing blood product inventory.

Perform microbiology and infectious disease testing while following all biosafety and infection control protocols.

Notify physicians and nursing staff of critical results promptly and document results in the EMR/LIS.

Maintain and adhere to strict infection control, quality assurance, and safety standards.

Assist with specimen collection, processing, and transport as needed.

Participate in continuing education, department meetings, and process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science required.
- Certifications: National certification (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent) required.
- Experience: One to three years of hospital or acute care laboratory experience preferred.
- Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and troubleshooting abilities with strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment.
