Position Overview

Are you passionate about delivering exceptional service and finding smart solutions that meet employee needs? Your analytical mindset, sound judgement, and commitment to service make you a natural fit for our Benefits Administrator role.

As a key member of our People Services team, you’ll represent the Benefits Department, ensuring the accurate and timely administration of employee and retiree benefit programs. Your role will be essential in helping employees understand and navigate their benefits with confidence.

You’re a strong communicator who knows how to connect with people in meaningful ways, offering personalized support that makes a difference. You also bring a strategic lens to your work—able to see the big picture and contribute to long-term improvements that enhance the employee experience and streamline our processes.

In this role, you will:

  • Accurately and efficiently administer employee and retiree benefit programs following established policies, procedures, and collective agreement provisions.
  • Own a client portfolio in which you manage benefit changes for each stage of the employment lifecycle including enrolments, life events, leaves, terminations, retirements, deaths, and retroactive adjustments.
  • Provide administrative support for the employee share purchase plan, group savings plans, and pension plans.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on all benefit programs, helping employees and retirees understand the value, flexibility, and navigation of their coverage including delivering presentations.
  • Ensure a high degree of accuracy in all benefit transactions, payments, and HRIS data.
  • Participate in regular and project-related system testing and monitor outcomes to ensure ongoing effectiveness.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies, processing errors, or system issues and recognize the financial and employee experience impact of errors.
  • Act as a liaison with benefit carriers to resolve escalated claim issues and discrepancies.
  • Assist or perform benefits-related reporting, reconciliations, and audits to maintain data integrity and compliance.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements and contribute to key initiatives and projects, offering support as needed to advance departmental goals.

What it takes:

  • Certificate in Human Resources Management or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), or equivalent education/experience.
  • 2+ years of recent experience in benefits or HR-related roles.
  • Experience with traditional and complex flexible benefit plans, multiple collective agreements, and savings plans. Experience with an employee share purchase plan and/or pension plans is an asset.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems, and Microsoft Excel. SAP platform knowledge, reporting, and/or intermediate Microsoft Excel skills are an asset.
  • A confident and effective verbal and written communicator with strong customer service skills and a focus on discretion and confidentiality with sound judgement in handling confidential/sensitive information.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities within tight timelines.
  • Strong organization skills and adaptability, with the ability to thrive in fast-paced independent and team-oriented work environments.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume client portfolio while meeting service level standards and ensuring a consistent employee experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and proven problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Quick learner with strong adaptability, able to navigate new systems, changing processes, and evolving business needs.
  • Working knowledge of employment legislation and ability to interpret and understand collective labour agreements and benefit carrier policies.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive, and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
