Job Description
At American Express our Global Network relies increasingly on the deep expertise and
experience of a core team of subject matter experts in advanced payments technology who
are passionate about EMV Chip, Contactless, Mobile payments and emerging digital payment
products and standards.
We value deep and broad knowledge of this domain in which we excel, to advance American
Express and Industry specifications, provide solutions and consultancy to our product teams, and
be great collaborators and communicators.
We're proud that a culture of respect and teamwork exists among colleagues. We are part of
a Technology team who thrive in close collaboration with our Business Product and Industry
Standards teams.
We are a small team of payments technical experts in a center of excellence based in the UK and
US. We have an excellent work/life balance, and flexible working practices.
International Travel is required from time-to-time when working on industry standards or on
internal American Express business initiatives.
As a part of our commitments to EMVCo, the industry technical body responsible for secure and
interoperable payment solutions, members of the team contribute to its work and mission and
represent American Express positions and interests there.
Within Amex you’ll work closely with business product teams and others using your deep
expertise in the areas of EMV Chip & Mobile payment products in particular as for POS Terminals
and Chipcards to define solutions and be a key contributor to American Express Payment
Product Specifications.
As well as solving stimulating daily consultancy requests that tap into your knowledge, you will
partner closely with our Global and Regional Certification teams to help ensure the security
and interoperability of chip and mobile products (and other emerging payment products) on the
American Express Network.
Coming from a technical background with business knowledge and context from your experience
in the card payments industry you’ll be ready to succeed and apply your expertise gained in
EMV, contact and contactless payments, mobile payments, digital and remote payments.
Your ability to combine your knowledge and passion with written communication skills to add to
or author documents, such as the functionally focused specifications, implementation guides,
and other documentation supportive of EMVCo or Amex standards and products will be highly
valued.
You will be both able and comfortable representing American Express at external industry forums,
in particular at EMVCo, and you’ll enjoy using your excellent verbal and written communications
skills in doing so.
While the role does not currently involve any software development, past experience as a
software developer of EMV related products (POS terminals, applications, etc.) would be a
valuable asset in support of the in-depth ‘bits & bytes’ understanding of how EMV chip
products and similar work.
