Job Summary

Under the general management & supervision of the GI Lab Supervisor. The Lead technician performs and supports activities in the GI Lab in reference to scheduled and unscheduled procedural case management and provides direction and guidance, to include all Ancillary and Ambulatory departments. The lead technician participates as a team member by performing all GI Lab medical technician duties. Assures all inpatient and outpatient endoscopes are available for daily cases. The Lead technician helps to develop technicians to ensure appropriate high-level disinfection, procedural preparation, and tool utilization.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains endoscope fleet and tracks repairs (30%)

  • Ensures that all supplies are ordered and stocked in all procedure rooms (30%)

  • Builds technicians schedules and daily assignments (15%)

  • Orients and mentors new staff (15%)

  • Orders and stocks patient nutrition (10%)


Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required


Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years experience in a GI Lab procedural setting required.

  • 1-3 years experience with high-level disinfection of endoscopes required.


Licenses:

  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.

One of the following preferred:

  • CMA-Certified Medical Assistant - AAMA - American Association of Medical Assistants,

-OR-

  • LPN-Licensed Practical Nurse - LPC State Licensing Board,

-OR-

  • EMT - CO - State of Colorado,

-OR-

  • CNA – Certified Nursing Assistant - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.

  • Knowledge of and the ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.

  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians and the public

  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures

  • Ability to communicate clearly
