VP, Associate General Counsel (Business Unit Support)

  • Location: USA – New York

  • The salary range for this role is:  $244,500-$366,500K

The Opportunity

Lead a team of attorneys providing legal, regulatory and compliance support to the underwriting businesses across QBE North America.  Deliver legal services across the organization by analyzing relevant precedents, developing strategy, and providing legal expertise that supports the achievement of strategic and operational goals, minimizes risk, and is in compliance.

Your new role

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide effective legal support to assigned business segments to advance QBENA‘s corporate strategy and meet or exceed its financial targets
•Resolve internal regulatory inquiries by researching and analyzing legal precedent to draft legal documents, provide recommendations and support lines of business
•Advise senior managers on complex legal matters by utilizing legal expertise to assess risk and recommend effective and appropriate solutions for a given situation
•Contribute to cross-functional decision-making by analyzing the legal implications of corporate strategies, procedures and programs and participating in multi-disciplinary teams to influence development of company policies and best practices
•Drive continuous improvement processes, high levels of client satisfaction and favorable legal outcomes
•Facilitate organizational compliance with applicable laws and regulations by utilizing knowledge of laws, policies and best practices to review documents and provide expertise on strategies for minimizing risk and limiting exposure
•Develop legal contracts by negotiating terms and clarifying issues to ensure realization of business objectives
•Communicate with key regulatory bodies and external partners by networking and providing information on behalf of the company to uphold organizational reputation and maintain beneficial external relationships

Required Education

• Doctoral Degree

Required Experience

• 10+ years relevant experience

Required Licenses/Certifications

• Admitted to the Bar

Preferred Education

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school
 

Preferred Experience

15+ years’ experience managing the legal and regulatory risks and acting as a strategic business parter to the underwriting units of a P&C and Specialty insurance company


•Prior experience as In-house counsel

•Prior experience leading a team of attorneys

• Legal and regulatory research

•Business and financial acumen
•Insurance regulatory and compliance knowledge
•Relationship between legal department and other business functions
•Policies, practices, trends, and information affecting his/her business and organization

Compensation Package: The salary range for this role is provided above. This is the national range for location(s) listed. The salary offer will be decided based on the role's complexity, its location, and the candidate’s professional background, including their education and experience. Beyond the base salary, regular full-time and part-time employees will also be eligible for QBE’s annual discretionary bonus plan based on business and individual performance. We encourage all candidates to apply, even if their salary expectations fall outside of this range, as we are committed to finding the right fit for our team.
