Description
HEAPY Solutions continues to grow and we’re looking for a Construction Project Estimator to support complex MEP infrastructure projects in our established markets. This role is ideal for someone with extensive construction estimating experience who enjoys analyzing project scopes, developing accurate cost estimates, and collaborating with project teams to help deliver successful projects from concept through construction.

What You'll Do
- Develop detailed and rough order of magnitude (ROM) cost estimates for MEP infrastructure construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and general trades supporting project delivery
- Analyze project drawings, specifications, studies, site visit information, and scope requirements to prepare accurate and competitive estimates
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and vendors to ensure estimates accurately reflect project goals, project risks, and execution strategies
- Support proposal development, value engineering efforts, cost forecasting, and project budgeting while helping deliver a Superior Client Experience
Key Responsibilities
The Construction Project Estimator plays a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of MEP infrastructure construction projects through accurate cost estimating, budget development, and project analysis. This role works closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to develop competitive estimates, support project planning, and help ensure projects are financially viable and positioned for success. Through collaboration, communication, and technical expertise, this position contributes to both project outcomes and HEAPY Solutions’ colleague-first culture.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintains a clear understanding of HEAPY’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values and demonstrates alignment in all responsibilities and interactions
- Develops detailed and rough order of magnitude (ROM) cost estimates for MEP infrastructure projects, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and supporting construction activities
- Reviews project drawings, specifications, studies, site visit information, schedules, and scope documents to develop accurate cost breakdowns and project budgets
- Utilizes estimating software and industry tools to prepare complete, accurate, and competitive estimates
- Collaborates with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to clarify scope, identify risks, and support successful project planning
- Assists with bid and proposal preparation by developing pricing strategies and supporting project pursuit efforts
- Identifies value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions while maintaining project quality, functionality, and client expectations
- Supports project cost analysis, forecasting, and change order pricing while assisting assigned project managers throughout project execution
- Maintains strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain competitive pricing and reliable market information
- Evaluates subcontractor and vendor proposals to support estimate accuracy and project success
- Maintains accurate estimating records, cost databases, bid documentation, and supporting project information
- Prepares reports and cost analyses for project teams, operations leadership, and clients as needed
- Ensures estimates align with applicable building codes, industry standards, safety requirements, and project specifications
- Stays current on construction industry trends, MEP technologies, market conditions, and estimating best practices
- Collaborates with senior leadership, operations managers, and project teams to support successful project delivery and colleague engagement
- Participates in ongoing professional development and actively seeks opportunities to expand technical knowledge and leadership skills
- This role includes occasional travel to project sites throughout the Indianapolis and Central Indiana region.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
QUALIFICATIONS
Normally requires 10+ years of experience in MEP construction estimating or related construction cost management roles, or equivalent experience.
- OSHA Safety Training/Certification required or ability to obtain certification within the first two years of employment.
- Strong understanding of both mechanical and electrical systems, construction practices, project sequencing, and construction cost estimating methodologies.
- Significant experience preparing estimates for large, complex construction projects, preferably valued at $5 million or greater.
- Experience with MEP infrastructure upgrade, replacement, renovation, or modernization projects.
- Healthcare market experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop conceptual estimates and rough order of magnitude budgets for client capital planning and early project evaluation.
- Experience with estimating software and construction management platforms such as Bluebeam, Procore, Trimble, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience developing budgets, cost forecasts, bid proposals, and change order pricing.
- Strong communication, collaboration, negotiation, vendor management, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, studies, and contract documents.
- Experience coordinating with contractors, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and client stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to remain sedentary at desk for long periods of time while operating a keyboard and using a computer screen.
- Ability to operate a mouse, stylus, or similar tool to make adjustments on electronic visuals.
- Ability to see details of objects on a screen, including differences in colors, shades, and brightness.
- Ability to communicate in person, electronically and via phone with other individuals.
- Possession of Reliable transportation to and from the project.
- Ability to work in all elements of indoor and outdoor environments which include the heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, etc.
- Ability to access all areas of the jobsite with activities that include ascending and descending stairs, scaffolding, ladders, navigating elevation changes, etc.
- Capable of working in physical positions that may include maneuvering self into different positions traditionally is achieved by kneeling, sitting, standing, squatting, bending over, etc.
- Ability to move, transport, or position items weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to apply established protocols and practices in a timely manner. and follow safety guidelines for both company and clients.
- Ability to gather, organize and evaluate information related to projects and calculations (such as cost analysis, facility assessments, design calculations, etc.).
