Description of Work

Reporting to a Correctional Captain III at a multi-level female correctional facility, this position is distinguished from Correctional Lieutenant II based on increased staffing totals, supervision for the most dangerous and non-compliant offenders, larger offender population totals and the complexity of the facility operation which generally includes restrictive and controlled housing. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Assisting in planning, supervising, and coordinating activities in a correctional facility.

2. Supervising Correctional Sergeant III’s and potentially serving as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) in absence of the Captain.

3. Assisting in planning and supervising personnel actions, administrative affairs, officers’ work schedules and coordinating activities involving discipline, security, and the welfare of the offender population.

4. Retaining responsibilities that are primarily custodial in nature serving as an assistant shift supervisor because of the large staffing structure.

5. Performing other related duties as needed.
