Northrop Grumman’s Defense Sector, Advanced Weapons is looking for a Mission Assurance Engineer level 2 or 3. This role will support mission assurance staff, implement quality assurance program plans for individual flight and development hardware programs addressing design, manufacturing, integration, and test activities. This role will ensure tasks are completed in accordance with company and contractual requirements in various groups to address technical issues, meet program requirements and ensure mission success. You will interface with customers, suppliers, and with Integration & Test and Engineering organizations to identify and resolve mission/flight assurance issues. They will provide support to Mission Assurance Management in review of various activities including ensuring AS9100D compliance throughout site policies, procedures and practices. This position will be 100% full time on site at our Northridge, CA location. 

Key Job Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Provide Mission Assurance oversight of supplier processes, throughput, and deliverables.

  • Own Supplier Quality risk management activities; develop and implement supplier quality evaluation and control systems.
  • Assure supplier process and product quality, including contractual, regulatory, and technical compliance; interface directly with supplier personnel to assess both supplier quality and manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Conduct product and process verification activities, monitor supplier quality performance, and drive root cause corrective action analysis for supplier quality issues.
  • Support maintenance of the approved supplier list; periodically review supplier performance to determine continued approval and manage supplier requests for waivers, deviations, and discrepancy reporting.
  • Keep management apprised of supplier performance, quality status, and risks; coordinate and oversee Supplier Quality plan implementation through all program phases.
  • Actively engage in supplier evaluation, qualification, and selection as new procurements are required on existing programs.
  • Manage implementation of Supplier Quality processes, including supplier approval activities, source selection evaluations, supplier classification (Critical, Key, Standard), supplier quality risk assessments and mitigation plans, and flow‑down of supplier quality requirements.
  • Execute Safety and Quality Assurance programs, procedures, and controls to ensure that products and services conform to company standards of excellence.
  • Provide oversight of receiving inspection activities for supplier‑provided material.
  • Adjudicate and process preliminary and final dispositions for product and service non‑conformances; process non‑conformances and issue/manage Corrective Action Requests (CARs).
  • Support development, implementation, and maintenance of Mission Assurance policies and procedures.
  • Interpret customer technical and Mission Assurance requirements to ensure they are integrated into program plans, specifications, and product drawings.
  • Provide oversight of non‑conformance review, failure investigations, and root cause, corrective action, and preventive action determinations; analyze and interpret trends and drive improvements on key metrics.
  • Represent Mission Assurance at program reviews and review boards including Configuration Control Board (CCB), Corrective Action Board (CAB), and Material Review Board (MRB).
  • Ensure Risk Management activities (DFMEA, PFMEA, Risk Boards) are executed according to standards and procedures.
  • Review and approve design documentation (Qualification Reports, Drawings, ATPs, BOMs, etc.).
  • Review and approve production documentation (assembly instructions, MOs, and rework instructions).
  • Interface with and support DCMA activities including audits and Government Source Inspection (GSI).
  • May provide Mission Assurance Engineering oversight at Naval Air Weapons Station (NAWS) China Lake and Edwards AFB.

Basic qualifications: Mission Assurance Engineer 2

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of relative Quality / Mission Assurance Engineering experience, or Master’s degree with 0 years; 6 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Knowledge base in root cause analysis tools such as Ishikawa, FMEA, DOE, 8D, 5 Why, etc.
  • Ability to read engineering documentation and inspect drawings and parts lists, inspection plans, and supplemental instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance within a timeframe set forth by management.

Basic qualifications: Mission Assurance Engineer 3

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years, or Master’s degree with 3 years, of relative Quality / Mission Assurance Engineering experience.
  • Knowledge base in root cause analysis tools such as Ishikawa, FMEA, DOE, 8D, 5 Why, etc.
  • Ability to read engineering documentation and inspect drawings and parts lists, inspection plans, and supplemental instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance within a timeframe set forth by management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with MES, Costpoint, and TipQA.

  • Proficiency with AS9102 and AS9100D aerospace standards.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of or certification(s) in IPC‑A‑610, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, and J‑STD‑001 standards.
  • Good working knowledge and experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
  • Current/Active Secret clearance.

Primary Level Salary Range: $91,800.00 - $137,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
