Job Description

Camp YMCA Kanawana is Québec’s oldest residential summer camp, offering innovative programming and traditional YMCA values-based camping. Staff members live on-site for the duration of the summer, from June to August. Salaries include food, lodging and transportation to and from camp. Under the supervision of the Regional Camp Director, the Head Chef will be responsible for coordinating the food services at Camp YMCA Kanawana. RESPONSIBILITIES Here’s the challenge we offer you: Manage all logistics related to Camp YMCA Kanawana’s food services, including deliveries, menu planning, meal preparation, staff management, etc. Recruit, supervise, train, and support a team responsible for delivering food services, with the support of the Regional Camp Director. Prepare approximately 1,000 meals per day during the summer season, with the help of the kitchen team. Develop a menu including vegetarian and gluten-free options, approved by a dietitian and in compliance with ACQ standards. Establish and maintain good relationships with suppliers to ensure the best quality at the best price, based on seasonal availability. Prepare food and equipment orders and manage inventory within the established budget. Coordinate meal services and ensure that all food service activities are safe and comply with industry standards. Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures regarding the protection of children and vulnerable individuals. Understand and integrate the value of philanthropy in the role and within the organization, participating in fundraising activities/events. WHY JOIN THE YMCA? REQUIREMENTS We are looking for a Head Chef who: Holds a vocational diploma in cooking (DEP). Possesses a valid MAPAQ certification. Has at least three years of experience as a chef and supervisor in food services. Has experience in large-scale meal production. Fluency in spoken and written French (required). Is passionate about working with youth in a summer camp and outdoor center setting. Is available to work flexible hours. Has no criminal record related to employment.
