Performs a wide variety of duties in the Endoscopy Unit. Assists clinical staff with procedures and assists in maintaining inventory and cleanliness of Endoscopy Unit. Assists the Professional Nurse in ensuring the maintenance of principles and practices of endoscopic processes within the Endoscopy Unit.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Inventory supplies in each designated area and order supplies according to PAR levels, including an end of the day review and inventory.
2. Reprocess Endoscopy instrumentation in CSR and pick up sterile equipment.
3. Reprocess endoscopes using the scope washer and document cycle results.
4. Applies knowledge of procedures by using and operating the correct equipment on a daily basis based on scheduled cases.
5. Sets up equipment in areas outside Endoscopy (i.e. SCU, OR, ED).
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. BLS Certification required, or obtained within 30 days from date of hire
2. SGNA certification required within one year of date of hire or eight years of endoscopy experience.
3. High School Graduate
Preferred:
1. EMT or Critical Care Tech Preferred
2. Associate degree in health care field preferred
3. Coursework in Medical Terminology / Health Care-related education
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
2. Ability to lift patients; move heavy objects by pushing or pulling
3. Knowledge of basic computer usage
4. Demonstrated ability to read, write and converse in clear and concise English and to communicate effectively with patients, staff and families, both verbally and in writing
5. Normal clerical dexterity
6. Typing skills and basic medical terminology
7. Well organized and possess high degree of Manual Dexterity
8. Excellent verbal communication skills
OR equivalent combination of the above
Preferred:
1. Previous Endoscopy Unit experience preferred
2. 2 years of experience working in a health care patient care support position with some direct patient care / clinical responsibilities
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
