Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership and Risk Management

  • Lead site Safety Committees and partner with leaders at all levels to identify hazards, prioritize corrective actions, and strengthen site safety performance.
  • Direct response to workplace emergencies, accidents, injuries, and near-misses.
  • Lead incident investigations, determine root causes and contributing factors, implement corrective actions, ensure improvements are sustainable to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct regular safety and environmental health audits of buildings, equipment, tools, and work conditions; document findings, recommend corrective actions, and follow through to resolution.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance on safety best practices across production facilities.

Compliance and Environmental Programs

  • Maintain current knowledge of OSHA, state, and other applicable SEH regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain required safety policies, written programs, procedures, and guidelines to support compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and consultants.
  • Respond to regulatory inquiries, complaints, and information requests; support risk management and litigation avoidance efforts.
  • Partner with Facilities on environmental permits, reporting, and recordkeeping for air, water, solid waste, and hazardous waste.
  • Help ensure spills, hazardous waste, and production by-products are managed in accordance with government regulations.

Systems, Reporting, and Program Consistency

  • Lead deployment and adoption of the company safety software platform for tracking incidents, near-misses, inspections, training and required documentation.
  • Improve safety reporting, data collection, and related processes and tools.
  • Collaborate with safety staff at other company locations to standardize practices where appropriate.
  • Drive consistent implementation of corporate safety standards and programs across production facilities.

Workers’ Compensation and Ergonomics

  • Partner with the workers’ compensation carrier, department leaders, employees, HR, and Risk Management to support timely and accurate injury case management.
  • Support administration of the workers’ compensation program, including recordkeeping, risk assessments, ergonomic improvements, and loss control measures.

Budget and Additional Expectations:

  • Manage expenses within budget and provide input to the SEH budget.
  • Location: Brentwood, New York Edgewood Sites and support for other U.S. locations as needed
  • Reports To: Human Resources. 
  • Travel: Occasionally, up to 10% of the time. Travels between locations in the Edgewood campus
  • Shift/Coverage: Day Shift, M-F
  • OTHER SHIFT/COVERAGE: On-call support may include 24x7 coverage; evening/weekend work as needed

Qualifications

  • Required

  • Post-secondary education.
  • 5+ years of related safety experience, including safety training development and delivery.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and applicable local/state safety and health regulations.
  • Direct safety experience in a general industry or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead meetings and training sessions.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across diverse teams and leadership levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to carry a cell phone and provide on-call support as required.
  • Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, Environmental Health Science, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree.
  • Certified Safety Professional or Associate SP certification issued by the BCSP.
  • 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Completion of OSHA 30-Hour General Industry course.
  • First Aid, CPR, and emergency medical response training/certification.
  • Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in office and production/manufacturing environments.
  • Significant standing and walking may be required.
  • Safety shoes are required on the production floor.
  • Exposure to loud noise may occur; hearing protection may be required.

Salary Range: 120,000.00 – 130,000.00 USD annual
