As a Lead HR Specialist you will be responsible for day-to-day generalist support functioning as a Senior HR Business Partner to the refinery. Areas of support include but are not limited to recruiting, payroll, medical leave/leave of absences, health & wellness benefits, employee relations, performance, development, as assigned by management.

- Serve as initial point of contact for employee relations matters; training, employment, labor relations, payroll, compensation and benefits.
- Provide guidance to management and employees on complex HR-related concerns, coordinate with other departments as needed, and refer complex issue to higher levels.
- Participate in employee investigations and assist with providing recommendations on resolutions.
- Initiate and complete processing of all duties involved in employment, terminations, transfers, and promotions of personnel.
- Research and send employee information to Compensation when requesting salary recommendations.
- Fulfill the hiring needs of the organization and lead recruitment initiatives and programs as necessary.
- Establish and implement college recruitment activities and programs at designated universities.
- Extend and negotiate offers of employment.
- Coordinate the on-boarding of all new hires.
- Assist with the termination process to ensure legal obligations are met.
- Coordinate the administration of employee benefits programs with external providers and answer participants benefit questions and resolve mostly routine issues related to their benefits.
- Prepare and communicate information to participants concerning benefit programs, procedures, and changes and ensures compliance.
- Coordinate the administration of payroll with external provider; Review payroll and ensure compliance with government agencies.
- Ensure compliance with labor regulations.
- Assist with special projects and functions of the department.
- Assist lower level HR/Support staff as needed.
- Design and run monthly reports as needed.
This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
Minimum Requirements:
- Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Texas City Refinery, required.
- High School Diploma or GED
- 8+ years of experience in the following area(s):
- professional-level Human Resources experience
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or higher level degree - in Human Resources, Business, or related area
- Experience with SAP
