Job Description

The Medical Director, Health Informatics (Med Dir, HI) is responsible for supporting the CMIO, the VP of HI, and other HI, IS&T, clinical, and business leaders in evaluating and advancing the system’s EMR and other clinical systems in an effort to improve and support the health and well-being of patients.  This individual will provide medical leadership for clinical information systems in his or her purview that assist clinicians in the delivery of patient care, medical education, research and for the advancement of clinical quality and safety initiatives.  The work will focus primarily on Care Connect roll-outs and optimization across RRH, and involve key stakeholders to improve and strengthen the EMR and related IT functions across the health system. 
 

The Med Dir, HI is responsible to help set and implement standards and expectations in the EMR for patient safety, efficiency, cost conscious, and other important outcome expectations, while assuring that the EMR and related clinical and operational practices are compliant with regulatory standards and applicable Health Informatics and Epic best practices.  The Med Dir, HI will also lead HI team members assigned to him or her, complying with RRH policies, regulatory and ethical standards, and best practices in leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the Department of Health Informatics, upholds its charter, and excels in the Medical Informaticist role by surpassing stated expectations in quality and quantity of work. Demonstrates consistent effort to deploy Information Technology for Usability and Safety (IT4US)
  • Serves as an advisor to the CMIO, CMO, CIO, VP HI, and other clinical, business, HI or IT staff with regard to physician issues and the impact that information technology has or may have on medical practices at affiliated organizations. 
  • Oversees the advisory teams assigned to him/her that are tasked by EMR optimization process within their clinical or specialty purview. Gains the support and consensus of physician, clinician and business leadership regarding information technology needs and priorities. Acts as a liaison and ambassador of the HI team and its strategy.
  • Develops deep expertise in areas of HI that are assigned and/or chosen: demonstrates the ability to see the big picture in terms of consequences and scope when planning for the future, responding to problems, and/or implementing necessary changes for growth and success 
  • Leads the HI teams that are assigned to him or her and/or leads Health Informatics efforts within his or her designated operational area or region.  
  • Provides medical leadership in the areas of planning, development, preparation and implementation of strategic and clinical information systems. Provides physician leadership using clinical data to proactively monitor, revise and develop automated clinical guidelines and best practices to improve the quality of care. Evaluates the impact of information technology on clinical processes and identifies areas to promote use of technology in creating efficiencies for clinicians and improving quality of care. 
  • Leads or participates in committees and projects that rely on clinical and medical informatics.
  • Promotes a positive IT and HI organizational culture, is committed to quality services, and represents the organization in appropriate forums
  • Improves and/or supports others in improving the health and well-being of patients through excellence in patient care, teaching and research.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO with a license in good standing. Board Certification in their field of medicine. 
  • At least two years of healthcare information technology experience, with experience providing medical leadership for clinical information systems
  • Preferably formally qualified in Health Informatics: Board Certified in Clinical Informatics and/or Master’s degree in Clinical Informatics and/or Certified Epic Physician Builder and/or Credentialed Epic Trainer with up to date knowledge in EMR design through ongoing education in informatics and Epic training. Preferred formal training in leadership and/or patient safety. 


Required licensure and certification skills: 

  • MD or DO with a license in good standing. Board Certification in their field of medicine. 
  • Preferably formally qualified in Health Informatics: Board Certified in Clinical Informatics and/or Master’s degree in Clinical Informatics and/or Certified Epic Physician Builder and/or Credentialed Epic Trainer with up to date knowledge in EMR design through ongoing education in informatics and Epic training. Preferred formal training in leadership and/or patient safety. 

PAY TRANSPARENCY

In addition to the base pay range, certain provider positions may be eligible for variable compensation in accordance with health system pay practices. This may include: productivity and/or value-based clinical incentives, bonus compensation, or other forms of variable pay.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
