Senior Associate, Technical Accounting
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Associate – Technical Accounting to join our national advisory practice. This role focuses on delivering high-quality accounting advice to public sector and for-purpose clients across Australia, with a particular emphasis on major infrastructure projects and climate reporting spanning all states and territories.
As a Senior Associate, you will work as part of an integrated, multi-disciplinary team to interpret, apply, and implement complex accounting standards, support clients through significant transactions and reforms, and contribute to the development of our technical capability.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Currently progressing toward attaining CPA, CA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification (mandatory). Undergraduate degree in finance or accounting (mandatory).
Minimum 3–4 years of experience in technical accounting, financial reporting, audit, or advisory, within professional services environment.
Experience in external audit is highly desirable.
Strong interest and demonstrated capability in interpreting and applying accounting standards.
Experience working with public sector, for-purpose, or major infrastructure clients is highly regarded.
Proven ability to deliver high-quality outputs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex issues for diverse audiences.
Technical Accounting & Advisory (responsibilities of the role)
Assist and contribute in preparing technical accounting advice on the application of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), including complex areas such as financial instruments, service concession arrangements, leases, equity investments, joint ventures and consolidation. This includes transactions in the transport, energy, utilities, housing and health sectors.
Contribute to the development of accounting position papers, accounting and financial models, technical assessments, and financial reporting assessment for major public sector and for-purpose clients.
Support clients in the preparation of financial statements, impact assessments, and implementation roadmaps for new or amended standards.
Support clients in assessing, interpreting, and applying climate and sustainability reporting requirements (e.g., Australian climate reporting standards), including identifying data needs, preparing disclosures, advising on transitional arrangements, and developing governance and reporting frameworks.
Support finance optimisation engagements for major infrastructure transactions, carve-outs, restructures, mergers, and investments, help the preparation of accounting structuring advice, due diligence support, balance sheet optimisation analysis, and financial reporting assistance.
Project Delivery
Assist the team in the delivery of technical accounting engagements, ensuring high-quality outputs, timely delivery, and strong stakeholder engagement.
Coordinate with integrated teams, including financial modelling, infrastructure advisory, actuarial, internal audit, and risk specialists, to provide holistic solutions.
Engage on multiple concurrent workstreams and assist the team in the preparation of accounting advice.
Client and Stakeholder Management
Build strong, trusted relationships with our clients across government departments, agencies, and not-for-profit organisations.
Present technical findings in clear, accessible language to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Mentor junior team members, fostering a high-performing and inclusive team culture.
Participate, and where possible, contribute to technical training, internal knowledge sharing, and the development of methodologies and insight pieces.
Support business development activities, including proposal preparation and thought leadership.
