Turbocharger Development Engineer

1. Position Summary:

The Development Engineer will be responsible for Turbocharger Development for Diesel Commercial vehicle engines with end-to-end ownership from response to RFQ to series production. Has to work closely with Noth American counterparts and customers/suppliers.

1. Create robust technical solutions and responses to customer RFQ’s, Proto sample development & testing, APQP, DVP&R, Engineering Release (Drawing / tech report etc. )

2. Drive cost reduction/ localization ideas, Lead product launch & Field issue resolution.

3. Coordinate with CFT (Sales, Program Management, Quality, Supply chain, Manufacturing Engineering etc.) for successfully launch of project from Initial offering to till SOP (Phase 1 to Phase 5).

4. Review of 3D models and 2D drawings of turbocharger components, assemblies, and sub-assemblies in accordance with design standards and ASME.

5. Ensuring fit & function of all components and assemblies.

2. Key Job Areas of Responsibilities

1. Follow NPI process Phase 1 to 6 in close coordination with Sales, Program Management, Supply Base, Manufacturing Engineering and Product Design teams.

2. Drive DFM and productivity improvement right from the start of the project.

3. Own and ensure timely engineering readiness – Packaging, Design, Validation and Reports.

4. Ensure 1st time right designs. Work with proto shop for “on time-every time” test hardware.

5. Own and deliver DVP&R for respective programs. Identify, Manage and Mitigate risks. Drive trouble shooting and Root cause analysis/failure analysis

6. Own and resolve Launch issues. Support Field issue resolution via qualified and proven solutions. Use reliability tools and six-sigma approach for problem solving.

7. Support organization on innovation, VA/VE, and standardization initiatives.

8. Support customer team on technical presentations, transactional pricing, and other reviews.

9. Review of 3D models and 2D drawings of full products, assemblies, and subassemblies according to design standards and ASME.

10. To drive activities (design, FEA, CFD, APQP, etc.) for development of turbocharger technologies, as part of new product development and customer launch.

11. Design, simulate & qualify the turbocharger components and assemblies to meet internal validation requirements and customer needs.

3. Education / Qualifications 

BE/ B-tech in Mecahnical engineering

4. Experience

1. Between 4 to 6 Years 

2. Preferably in automotive industry.

3. Experience in automotive product development and testing is preferred

5. Key Skills and Knowledge

1. Automotive domain knowledge included knowledge of IC engines, Air/Fuel management systems, Engine test procedures and results analysis.

2. Knowledge of casting, machining, stamping processes. Design skills, GD&T etc.

4. Good analytical capabilities, good verbal and written communication (English), presence of mind and technical negotiations skills, problem solving and continuous learning attitude

5. Good knowhow of GD&T, drawing reviews.

6.Ability to perform and review design Stack-ups

7. Good knowledge of MS tools (excel, power point…)
