Job Description

As part of the role, you’ll be required to go through National Security Vetting clearances (SC).  The process of you gaining clearances will be funded by the company.

Overall purpose of the job:

Work with the Vysiion delivery and service teams, PMO function, and customers to ensure the efficient, technically and commercially compliant, and on-time delivery of assigned contracts. 

As a Technical Consultant, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality networking and infrastructure solutions to new and existing customers, with a focus on Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) environments. 

You will work closely with Technical Architects to contribute to solution design, progressing High-Level Designs (HLDs) into detailed Low-Level Designs (LLDs), and act as a technical lead during the build and implementation of engineered networking solutions. 

The role typically operates as part of a project delivery team consisting of Technical Architects, Project Managers, and engineering resources. You will provide subject matter expertise in enterprise networking technologies, while also providing technical leadership and guidance to more junior engineers. 

You may also operate in a standalone consultancy capacity, providing specialist advice directly to customers or acting as a technical advisor across in-flight projects.

Key responsibilities for this job:

  • Early involvement in networking delivery projects, contributing to and producing Low-Level Designs (LLDs) based on agreed High-Level Designs (HLDs), with a strong focus on enterprise grade and CNI network infrastructure. 
  • Acting as technical lead during the build, configuration, and implementation phases of networking and infrastructure projects. 
  • Working closely with Technical Architects to refine network designs, including routing, switching, segmentation, and secure connectivity requirements. 
  • Liaising with customers to derive detailed technical requirements, network configurations, and integration dependencies. 
  • Providing subject matter expertise in enterprise networking technologies, including routing, switching, WAN, and SD-WAN solutions. 
  • Supporting delivery of solutions in Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) environments, ensuring resilience, availability, and secure network design principles are met. 
  • Working on customer sites, data centres, and secure environments during the delivery and implementation of networking solutions. 
  • Ensuring solutions are successfully transitioned into support through knowledge transfer, documentation, and post-implementation engagement. 
  • Contributing to the development of repeatable network design patterns, standardised configurations, and deployment automation where appropriate. 
  • Applying cyber security principles to network design, including segmentation, zoning, access control, and secure connectivity.

Knowledge and experience required:

Experience across one or more of the following technical areas, with a strong emphasis on enterprise grade networking: 

  • Networking & Security (Core Focus) 
  • Cisco (and/or equivalent vendor) routing and switching technologies 
  • Enterprise WAN technologies including MPLS, Internet, leased lines, and SD-WAN solutions 
  • Firewall technologies (Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point or equivalent) 
  • Load balancing and application delivery (e.g. F5 or equivalent) 
  • Network security principles including segmentation, zoning, and secure connectivity design 
  • VPN technologies and remote access solutions 
  • Monitoring and network management tools (e.g. SolarWinds, PRTG or equivalent) Include only the minimum requirements needed to succeed in the role.  You may want to cover education/certifications, must-have technical knowledge and specific experience needed for the role.  

Operational & Delivery Experience 

  • Experience delivering enterprise networking infrastructure projects within complex environments 
  • Structured delivery lifecycle experience (design, build, test, transition to support) 
  • Experience working in secure or regulated environments (CNI, public sector, defence, etc.) 
  • Ability to produce and implement from HLDs and LLDs  

Desirable knowledge and experience:

  • Infrastructure & Adjacent Technologies 
    • Virtualisation platforms (e.g. VMware vSphere) 
    • Automat    ion and scripting (e.g. Ansible, Python, or PowerShell) 
    • Cloud connectivity concepts (Azure ExpressRoute, AWS Direct Connect)Add any nice-to-have skills, certifications or experience.
  • Exposure to OT / industrial networking or cyber-secure network environments 
  • Identity-based network access (e.g. Cisco ISE or equivalent) 
  • Data centre networking and resilient architecture design 
  • Large-scale network transformation, refresh, or migration programmes
