Position Summary

Extu is hiring a Content Operations Specialist to operate, supervise, and continuously improve our Content Machine, the automated system that produces the through-channel marketing content powering our clients’ dealer and partner marketing programs. This is a hybrid role: equal parts operator and editor, with a strong bias toward someone who wants to grow into deeper operational and technical scope over time.

On the operator side, you’ll keep the machine running smoothly, monitoring output, triaging issues, refining prompts and workflows, and digging into the mechanics when something needs to be fixed or made better. You won’t be a passive user of the system; you’ll be its day-to-day owner, expected to understand how it works under the hood and improve it as you go.

On the editor side, you’ll bring judgment to what the machine produces; reviewing content for accuracy, brand alignment, and quality before it ships, and vetting topic suggestions for relevance and value before they ever enter the pipeline. AI is great at generating content; it’s not yet great at deciding what’s actually worth saying. You’ll protect the bar between content that ships and content that actually engages.

This role is well-suited to someone whose editorial career is starting to bend toward content operations, prompt engineering, or other technical-adjacent work. You’ll have room to grow in that direction here.

Key Responsibilities

Content Machine Operation & Supervision

  • Monitor the Content Machine’s output across all engines and keep content moving through the pipeline on schedule
  • Triage issues as they arise—flag, fix, work around, or escalate with clear context
  • Maintain awareness of throughput, bottlenecks, and recurring quality patterns
  • Be the operational owner of “is the machine healthy today?”

Content Quality Review & Editorial QC

  • Review machine-generated content for accuracy, tone, brand alignment, and factual correctness before publication
  • Edit and refine where needed—light copy edits and corrections, not full rewrites
  • Fact-check claims, sources, and product references against sponsor-provided materials
  • Protect sponsor brand integrity and Extu’s reputation through a consistently high quality bar
  • Document recurring quality issues so we can improve prompts and workflows over time

Editorial Direction & Topic Curation

  • Vet AI-generated topic suggestions for relevance, engagement potential, and alignment with each program’s audience
  • Supplement machine suggestions with original topic ideas—keep the content roadmap creative, not just productive
  • Partner with Program Managers to shape per-program content roadmaps that mix automated suggestions with human judgment
  • Push back on weak suggestions; champion ideas the machine wouldn’t come up with on its own
  • Build a working sense of what makes content actually engaging—and use it

Sponsor Asset Management & Publication

  • Coordinate with sponsors (via Program Managers) to collect the materials the machine needs as inputs
  • Feed assets into the Content Machine and supervise their publication

Workflow Maintenance & Light Technical Fixes

  • Diagnose and fix routine workflow issues—missed fields, broken steps, formatting bugs, output inconsistencies
  • Iterate on prompts and templates to improve output quality
  • Escalate complex technical issues to the Product team with reproducible examples and clear context
  • Document fixes and learnings to build institutional knowledge

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Partner with Program Managers on per-program content roadmaps and priorities
  • Work with the Design team on template, layout, and creative issues
  • Engage Product on platform issues and improvement priorities
  • Tap BI for content performance data and translate it into actionable insights
  • Roll up your sleeves on whatever needs doing—this team is small, growing, and ambitious

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in content, editorial, copywriting, journalism, content marketing, content operations, or a closely related field
  • Strong editorial eye—you can spot a tone problem, a factual gap, or a structural issue without being told
  • Editorial judgment—you have a point of view on what content is worth publishing and what isn’t, and you can defend it
  • Solid writing skills—you won’t be writing from scratch, but you need to know what good looks like and why
  • Operational and technical aptitude—you understand systems, you debug logically, and you’re energized (not intimidated) by digging into how something works under the hood. You don’t just use tools; you want to understand them.
  • Process improvement instinct—when you see a workflow, you start thinking about how to make it better. You document, iterate, and refine rather than just executing what’s in front of you.
  • Genuine interest in AI as a tool for better content work—you’ve used AI tools, you have opinions on them, and you’re not selling yourself as an “AI expert”
  • Strong attention to detail across grammar, brand consistency, facts, formatting, and workflow execution
  • Self-starter mindset—you spot problems, propose solutions, and know when to escalate vs. fix it yourself
  • Open to feedback and constructive criticism; you understand that good output gets better when it’s pressure-tested
  • Startup mentality—you’re willing to help peers, learn new skills, and do what it takes to get the job done right
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity—this role will evolve as the Content Machine matures

Nice to Have

  • Experience with workflow automation tools (Zapier, Make, n8n, or similar)
  • Hands-on experience with prompt engineering or LLM-based content workflows
  • Background in content operations, production management, or editorial workflow design
  • Familiarity with content management systems, DAMs, or publishing platforms
  • Light familiarity with HTML, Markdown, or other content formatting languages
  • Experience working with brand guidelines across multiple clients or sponsors

Physical Requirements

  • Travel requirement – infrequent
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds (laptop for work)
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time at a computer.
  • Move about inside the office for meetings and to access office equipment
  • Communicate verbally with clients through phone and call center software.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid work schedule with 3 days (Tue/Wed/Thurs) in office required.
  • Indoors, climate-controlled office
