OVERVIEW
URC is implementing the DHAPP-funded “Umbutfo Lophilile Ngulonqoba iHIV”: HIV Epidemic Control for a Healthy Military Project with an overall goal to support the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini (GKoE) to reduce the number of new HIV infections and other STIs among members of the Umbutfo Eswatini Defense Force (UEDF), their families, and the civilian communities served by the UEDF health services in Eswatini to support the 5 project objectives: a) HIV prevention interventions; b) HIV testing services; c) HIV/AIDS care and treatment; d) HIV clinical monitoring systems, and e) institutional capacity building.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Pharmacy Technician will build capacity for the UEDF Pharmacy team and URC staff in the 10 clinics to ensure compliance and operationalization of the MoH pharmacy SOPs. S/He will provide technical support to all 10 UEDF clinics to maintain a high standard of medicine and commodity supply chain management systems.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Provide support to the military health staff in the preparation, ordering, and receiving of medicines and medical commodities from the Central Medical Stores for the main hub and other military facilities.
- Conduct joint medical supplies audits for ART and essential medicines and compile comprehensive audit reports to inform the medicines and medical supplies’ quantification and ordering processes.
- Provide technical support to the pharmacy departments at the 10 military clinics to ensure proper pharmacy documentation, ordering, and reporting practices.
- Conduct trainings for facility health care workers in all the military clinics in inventory management and disposal of medicines and medical commodities.
- Ensure proper documentation, storage and disposal of expired medicines and medical commodities in keeping with the national waste disposal regulations.
- Compile and submit periodic performance trackers, medicines, and medical commodity monitoring reports and pharmacy activity reports to the UEDF and URC.
- Carry out any other tasks consistent with the nature of this position and support other duties assigned by the supervisor and in line with the project scope.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrable knowledge of proper prescription, dispensing, ordering and inventory management practices.
- Be a self-motivated individual with a good work ethic and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Have flexibility and be able to work within a dynamic team environment, possessing good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Eswatini pharmaceutical and supply chain policies and processes for medicines and medical commodities.
- Prior experience of work within the military environment would be of added benefit.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and one year of pharmacy experience. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Possess a current Eswatini License to practice as a Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician.
- Fluent in English and Siswati languages.
- Commitment to upholding URC’s values.
