This Opportunity
The National Planning and Project Delivery Strategic Advisor will be part of Planning practice within WSP’s Advisory & Planning (A&P) business line.
Your Impact
The National Planning and Project Delivery Strategic Advisor provides strategic advice to help public- and private-sector clients navigate complex planning, project delivery, and environmental reviews risks for major infrastructure programs. The practice works across WSP’s transportation, environment, property and energy markets, bringing together policy insight, regulatory strategy, applied research, and practical delivery experience to help clients move nationally important projects from concept to implementation with greater certainty, speed, and defensibility. We actively seek opportunities to work across sectors, leveraging our expertise to bring innovative, outcome-focused solutions to a wide variety of clients and projects.
This is a part-time, 24 hours a week role.
Duties
- Guiding project owners through the delivery of capital projects. This includes advising on selection of optimal delivery methods to fit the owner’s needs, including Public-Private-Partnerships (P3), design-build, progressive design-build, and construction manager/general contractor.
- Advising project owners on the financing and funding of capital projects, with an emphasis on innovative delivery.
- Supporting project owners to determine the goals and constraints for the implementation of their projects and preparation to execute a complex project using innovative, collaborative methods.
- Collaborating in a teaming environment with other members of project teams for the successful planning, procurement and delivery of projects, including interacting with, and providing appropriate technical advice to engineers, investment bankers, financial analysts, legal counsel, and internal-client procurement teams.
- Developing strategies for change management and alternative delivery project implementation and setting up the process for agencies to implement these strategies over the life of a project.
- Ability to work across WSP’s transportation, energy, and environment markets, connecting subject-matter experts, project delivery teams, and client leadership around integrated solutions.
Market Growth & Business Development
- Represent WSP nationally through active participation in client engagements, industry events, professional associations, and policy forums.
- Promote market intelligence gathering and pipeline development to anticipate trends and unlock new opportunities.
- Expand the Planning practice across multiple business sectors, building strategic alliances and partnerships to secure new work.
- Lead high-impact project pursuits, bringing together cross-functional teams to deliver winning proposals.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a trusted advisor to strategic clients, offering future-ready solutions and thought leadership.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships, understanding their evolving needs and translating them into actionable strategies.
- Foster inclusive engagement practices that reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and reinforce WSP’s strategic vision.
- Oversee the delivery of complex, multi-sector planning programs, ensuring quality, compliance, and client satisfaction.
- Lead contract negotiations, project scoping, pricing, and performance metrics to ensure alignment with business goals.
Qualifications
Required
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in transportation planning, including full P&L ownership.
- Bachelor’s degree and post-graduate degree in a related field (MA, JD, PhD) is required.
- Ability to conduct applied research, analyze and synthesize results and report them in plain language, accessible to a variety of audiences.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and understanding of client relationships and providing excellent client service.
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- The ability to manage time effectively and prioritize competing interests.
- The ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Active engagement in relevant industry organizations such as AASHTO, ACEC, WTS, COMTO, etc. is preferable.
- Authorization to immediately work in the United States.
