Leads the estimation process for complex, high-value projects, including detailed material and labor assessments. This role serves as a subject matter expert within the Estimating team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness in bids, providing strategic input to Sales and Operations, and mentoring junior estimators.
ABOUT THE JOB:
The Estimating Specialist II leads the estimation process for complex, high-value projects, including detailed material and labor assessments. This role serves as a subject matter expert within the Estimating team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness in bids, providing strategic input to Sales and Operations, and mentoring junior estimators.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently analyze and interpret architectural and civil blueprints, specifications, and related documentation for bid preparation.
Prepare and manage detailed estimates for large-scale or complex construction projects, including comprehensive scopes of work.
Collaborate with Sales, Project Management, and Operations teams to ensure alignment on pricing strategies and project execution.
Develop and refine takeoff and estimation processes using company software and industry best practices.
Lead estimation on specialized precast concrete products and custom structures, incorporating production capabilities and constraints.
Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and quality assurance reviews for Estimating Specialist I and other junior team members.
Participate in pre-bid meetings, client consultations, and project kick-offs as required.
Conduct cost analysis to support value engineering and project optimization efforts.
Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, market conditions, and competitor pricing structures.
Ensure compliance with Geneva Pipe and Precast/NWP policies, safety standards, and estimating procedures.
Maintain high standards of documentation, organization, and communication throughout the estimating lifecycle.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Advanced ability to read and interpret blueprints, civil plans, and technical specifications.
In-depth knowledge of precast concrete production processes and plant capabilities.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present and explain estimates to stakeholders.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
Demonstrated leadership and mentorship capabilities.
High level of initiative, with the ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines concurrently.
Understands precast process and production capabilities of plants
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
5 years Estimating experience in a manufacturing office environment
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of civil engineering and surveying terminology and practices.
Proven record of successful bid submissions and estimate accuracy
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Able to read, write and speak in English language
Must have a proficient understanding of civil engineering and surveying terms and methods.
