Job Description
About You
You are a passionate and driven scientist or engineer who enjoys thinking about complex problems in the marine environment. You have a strong foundation and interest in hydrodynamics, and coastal, estuarine, and/or fluvial processes. You have hands-on experience with numerical models that may include hydrodynamics, waves and coastal processes, and/or sediment transport. You are comfortable processing and analyzing data to support model setup, calibration, and validation and you are detail-oriented and curious. You are interested and excited to apply your modeling skillset to a wide range of environmental challenges and are eager to tackle new problems. You communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences and enjoy collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team. You are motivated to grow your technical skills while contributing meaningfully to real-world water resources and environmental challenges. A lifelong learner, you want to keep growing intellectually and professionally. You know how to prepare winning proposals and exceed clients’ expectations. Collaborating with colleagues with diverse expertise is exciting for you, and you are also comfortable working independently. People thrive under your coaching. Quality management and integrity are among your strongest principles.
About Integral
Integral Consulting Inc. is a science and engineering firm delivering sound technical solutions to meet today’s challenges in the health, environmental, and natural resource arenas. We are a values-driven collaborative team that is as passionate about company culture as we are about the work we do for our clients. Since our founding in 2002, we have operated with a demonstrated commitment to the well-being, diversity, and professional development of our staff and an equal commitment to strong partnerships with our clients and teaming partners. We are a company where people come to solve today’s toughest environmental challenges through innovative ideas, exceptional teamwork, and dedication to accuracy and technical quality.
About the Job
We are currently seeking an early career scientist or engineer for our Marine Science and Engineering Practice area. The position will support multiple clients on varied projects, with the common theme of applying numerical models, which may include hydrodynamics, waves, sediment transport, and shoreline evolution. You will support these projects by executing both the model setup and application, including development of model grids, processing and development of initial and boundary conditions, and the analysis and interpretation of results. On projects, you will work closely with a project manager and other team members, though it is expected that you are able to take on modeling tasks independently.
This position may offer in-office, remote, or hybrid opportunities based on the candidate’s location and the needs of the organization.
Responsibilities
As a Numerical Modeler and Analyst, your job functions will include, but not be limited to:
- Supporting development and application of coastal and hydrodynamic models (e.g., Delft3D, XBeach, SWAN, HEC-RAS, SFINCS)
- Assisting with setup, calibration, and validation of numerical models
- Analyzing waves, water levels, currents, shoreline change, and sediment transport processes
- Processing and visualizing model inputs and outputs (Python, MATLAB, GIS)
- Contributing to technical memoranda, reports, and presentations
- Performing data analysis and evaluation, QA/QC, and integration into modeling workflows
- Collaborating with engineers, scientists, and planners on a wide range of projects.
What you’ll gain from this position:
- Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art coastal models
- Experience solving real-world environmental problems
- Mentorship from experienced marine engineers and scientists
- Opportunity to grow into a technical specialist or project engineer role.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold an advanced degree in oceanography, environmental fluid mechanics, ocean engineering, or civil engineering.
The ideal candidate will have:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in coastal engineering, civil/environmental engineering, ocean engineering, oceanography or related field
- Coursework or experience in coastal processes, fluid mechanics, and numerical modeling
- Proficiency with at least one numerical modeling tool (e.g., Delft3D, XBeach, SWAN, HEC-RAS, ROMS)
- Experience with data analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, or similar)
- Working knowledge of GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly through written and verbal communication.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- A desire to grow both intellectually and professionally
- Possess strong organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers
Compensation is commensurate with experience and internal equity, within the listed range.
