Job Description

Key Accountabilities

  • Build SJ/SMEC’s reputation as a leading consultant with a strong reputation for innovation, technical excellence, quality and project delivery;

  • Provide technical risk (and opportunity) governance to both proposals and projects to achieve reliable project performance in terms of sophistication, timeliness and quality (e.g. as Proposal/Project Director);

  • Support management to provide technical leadership to employees to ensure cohesion, optimal performance, resourcing, retention and professional development of technical staff;

  • Support management to achieve sustainable growth of the business through targeted client relationship management (CRM) and business development (BD) activity.

Experience

Atleast 20+ years of Professional Industry Experience

  • Established international industry profile, recognised as a leader in Ports and Maritime;

  • Sought out at industry forums.

 

Has the demonstrated ability to consistently:

  • Provide key technical expertise across a broad range of high profile projects;

  • Manage risk on substantial projects;

  • Apply safety in design practices and processes;

  • Deliver best client outcomes which have resulted in cost savings;

  • Establish and maintain client relationships;

  • Bring in new business through business development activities;

  • Building technical capability of others;

  • Provide expert advice and undertake key high level and complex technical tasks with a high degree of independence across a broad range of medium to large projects;

  • Successfully monitor and manage the scope and risk of multiple complex and varying size projects and apply business systems;

  • Prepare high level complex technical reports and prepare successful proposals on medium to large projects;

  • Utilise excellent time management skills with the ability to efficiently plan workloads and meet deadlines;

  • Effectively work across a variety of projects continuously learning and applying new skills and knowledge quickly and efficiently;

  • Effectively manage client relationships and expectations

  • Provide leadership, supervision and coaching to other staff;

  • Effectively engage key stakeholders to result in superior project outcomes which meet or exceed client expectations.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Demonstrated leadership ability;

  • High level technical knowledge;

  • Business planning, budgeting and commercial acumen;

  • High level consulting and client management skills;

  • ·Proven high level project management skills;

  • An understanding of the business / organisation / marketing context of business solutions;

  • High level of client service orientation;

  • Good national and international industry awareness and market knowledge;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment;

  • Skilled in managing a co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment;

  • Ability to source and apply new knowledge including industry information and key talent;

  • Highly skilled in managing competing priorities and working under pressure;

  • Computer literacy with proficiency in a variety of relevant computer programs;

  • Sound understanding of SMEC's organisational capability and how to access it;

  • Aware of SMEC Business Systems in particular:

  • Project Management

  • WHS Management

  • High level application of CRM principals.
