About the Role

THE POSITION
Wellington Management is seeking to recruit an Equity Research Analyst (“Analyst”) to join an established equity portfolio management team managing U.S. Small and Micro-cap strategies. This team applies a fundamental, bottom-up research approach to identify high-quality, innovative companies trading at attractive valuations. The Analyst will focus on identifying compelling investment opportunities across sectors and work as part of a collaborative, high-performing team.

In addition to traditional fundamental responsibilities, the Analyst will leverage advanced data science and artificial intelligence techniques, including large language models (LLMs), to enhance research generation, idea sourcing, and portfolio insights. The Analyst will partner closely with the Portfolio Management team to generate differentiated, alpha-generating ideas while integrating modern AI tools into the research workflow.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities for this position will include the following:

Fundamental Research & Investment Responsibilities
•    Generate long-term investment ideas and provide ongoing monitoring of portfolio positions, developing differentiated insights to support investment decisions.
•    Conduct proprietary bottom-up research drawing on company filings, management meetings, alternative data, and independent research sources.
•    Build and maintain detailed multi-year financial models and scenario-based valuation frameworks.
•    Recommend new securities and maintain oversight of existing holdings, partnering closely with Portfolio Managers.
•    Collaborate closely within a small, high-conviction team and across the firm’s global research platform.

AI / LLM-Driven Research & Innovation
•    Design and implement prompts and tools, including the use of large language models, to improve research efficiency and insight generation.
•    Leverage generative AI solutions to synthesize large volumes of structured and unstructured data (e.g., filings, transcripts, alternative data) into actionable investment insights.
•    Apply emerging AI techniques pragmatically, balancing innovation with robustness, scalability, and real-world application within an investment process.
•    Stay at the forefront of technological developments, continuously assessing new models, tools, and techniques for relevance to equity research and portfolio management.

QUALIFICATIONS
The Analyst will have between five and ten years of relevant buy-side experience and will exhibit a passion for equity markets, as well as the following experience and qualifications:

Investment & Research Expertise
•    Demonstrated success investing in U.S. small/SMID and/or micro-cap equities, with a generalist, multi-sector orientation.
•    Strong, disciplined investment process focused on identifying high-quality businesses with sustainable competitive advantages.
•    Advanced financial modeling and valuation expertise.
•    Ability to synthesize complex information and communicate clearly and persuasively in written and oral formats.
•    Proven ability to operate independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.

AI / LLM & Technical Capabilities
•    Cutting-edge knowledge of large language models (LLMs) and modern AI systems.
•    Experience applying AI, NLP, or machine learning techniques to real-world problems, ideally within an investment or research context.
•    Ability to translate investment workflows into scalable AI-enabled solutions and tools.

Additional Qualifications
•    Strong intellectual curiosity and interest in both financial markets and emerging technologies.
•    Creative problem-solving ability, particularly in open-ended and ambiguous environments.
•    Collaborative mindset with the ability to partner effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
•    High ethical standards and professional integrity.
•    Strong academic credentials; undergraduate degree required, MBA or CFA/CAIA preferred.

LOCATION
The Equity Research Analyst, Small and Microcap will be based in Wellington’s Global Headquarters in Boston, MA.
