
Facilities O&M Mechanic
Job Description
Under general supervision, performs preventive maintenance and emergency maintenance work including repairing HVAC (air conditioning/heating natural & LP gas equipment), gasoline/diesel equipment and electrical wiring and equipment. Performs a range of varied, non-routine tasks servicing and maintaining facilities, grounds and equipment. Work involves welding, plumbing, painting, carpentry and maintenance of facilities and grounds. Work assignments are subject to instructions and established work routines and the worker is given latitude to rearrange the sequence based on changing work situations or work flow. Work requires journeyman level knowledge of the techniques, methods and procedures used to service and maintain facilities, equipment and grounds which are gained through a combination of training and experience. Solves problems by choosing among a range of defined alternatives. Work is reviewed upon completion for technical accuracy and compliance with instructions or established procedures. Develops regular contact with individuals in other work groups or external vendors to obtain, clarify or give facts or information. Work is performed in a controlled work environment where there are some risks and hazards, but they are known, predictable and controllable.
- Oversees and controls operations of central HVAC plants.
- Performs preventive maintenance and emergency maintenance work to include repairing HVAC (air conditioning/heating natural & LP gas equipment) and gasoline/diesel equipment.
- Performs lubrication, repairs, preventive maintenance and minor overhaul adjustments to HVAC, electrical motors, gas and diesel engines, pumps, compressors, and other electrical, mechanical and hydraulic equipment as required.
- Oversees operation of wastewater treatment plants.
- Locks and unlocks security areas.
- Moves office furniture and equipment.
- Maintains work area, tools and equipment in safe and proper working condition.
- Issues construction tools and equipment.
- Complies with safety rules and regulations and employs safe work practices.
- Conducts safety meetings and ensures that safety rules are enforced, safe work practices are encouraged and unsafe conditions and behaviors are corrected.
- Operates assigned vehicles and construction equipment.
- Oversees the work of trainees, contract and temporary employees.
- Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications.
- Operates HVAC plants and various other types of equipment for maintenance.
- Operates personal computer and equipment associated with controlling HVAC plant and preventive maintenance system.
- Performs other job-related work as assigned.
OPEN REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of facilities maintenance experience which must include one (1) year experience in HVAC/Electrical work.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
A valid driver's license is required prior to employment and must be maintained during employment in this classification.
A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License is required within six (6) months of employment and must be maintained during employment in this classification.
This is a safety sensitive position- operates a vehicle requiring a commercial driver's license.
Successful completion of JEA Confined Space Entry training by the end of probation in this classification.
The starting hourly pay for this position is $45.08.
