SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER, GRADES K-2

Terms of Employment: 10-month, Full-time Employee 
Reports to:  Principal, Lower School
Salary: Current Approved Odyssey Charter School CBA Salary Scale

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid, active Delaware Teaching License and appropriate certification in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1531
  • Successful completion of Praxis II exams
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and compliance requirements

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Elementary Education
  • Experience teaching in an elementary school setting
  • Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Experience with data collection and progress monitoring
  • Experience implementing research-based interventions in reading and mathematics
  • Experience modifying and accommodating curriculum for diverse learners
  • Experience working with students with a range of disabilities in inclusive or specialized settings

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and support a caseload of students receiving special education services, ensuring access to the general education curriculum through accommodations and modifications outlined in each student's IEP
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction using research-based strategies to address students' academic and functional goals
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum, align instruction to content standards, and support inclusive practices
  • Collect, analyze, and utilize student data to monitor progress toward IEP goals and inform instructional decisions
  • Create and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment that supports the diverse needs of all students
  • Implement appropriate instructional and behavioral supports to ensure equitable access for students with disabilities
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in special education, including IEP development, compliance, and intervention strategies
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with families regarding student progress, goals, and support strategies
  • Participate in team meetings, including IEP meetings, and collaborate with related service providers and staff
  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation, records, and reports as required by law and school policy
  • Perform other duties as assigned
