Primary Learning Support Teacher

The Learning Support Teacher for the School will be involved in fostering the wide students’ life of ISHCMC within a caring, supportive environment for the individual child and high standards in extracurricular areas of sport, drama, art and music. The Learning Support Teacher will perform a full range of duties, including but not limited to: Rationale Identify, assess, support, monitor and evaluate students’ specific learning needs, in collaboration with other members of the school community involved with students, recognizing and valuing the diversity in our student population. Demonstrate an ability to develop excellent rapport with students, teachers, parents and visiting consultants. Actively participate in activities, assisting, intervening and encouraging students, individually or in groups. Work effectively as part of a team providing mutual support, sharing observations and expertise, and cooperatively implementing programs. Generate and implement an appropriate learning plan and associated strategies for each designated student in conjunction with the class teacher. Provide instruction to small groups of students involved in the learning support program. When appropriate, prepare materials and equipment for student use. Develop and maintain confidential records of all pertinent documentation including student attendance, lesson plans, assessment records, minutes of planning meetings etc. When required, makes adjustments to curriculum or approaches to learning and teaching, taking into account the educational needs of individual students. Maintain a strong working knowledge of current best practice in Learning Support. Liaise with both internal and external professionals in a confidential manner to support student success. Actively supervises and completes duties, as required including before and after school. Produce written reports as required. Make a positive contribution at team meetings. Relate appropriately and respectfully to all team members. School Organization The Learning Support Teacher is expected to work in a positive, professional, supportive manner and develop a collaborative and team approach to enable the school to achieve its stated philosophy and its specific goals. Meets all requirements nominated in the Staff Handbook. Provide an additional and specialist resource to teachers, supporting differentiation for learners with identified support and education needs. Participates in setting annual goals for the department by utilizing data. Liaise with staff regarding student’s progress and requirements. School Community The LS Teacher is expected to view the role of parents in the learning process as essential. Good parent/school relationships should be promoted and fostered. Be familiar with the diversity of the school community and student’s family background. Attend school events such as teacher/parent events, Parent Teacher Conferences, Orientation Programmes, and community events as needed. Liaise with parents as necessary.
