Summary/Objective

We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced Social Moderator Team Lead to lead a team of moderators responsible for managing user-generated content across our social media platforms. This role demands strong leadership skills, sound judgment, and a deep understanding of social media dynamics. The ideal candidate will ensure consistent enforcement of community guidelines, drive high-quality moderation, and foster a positive, supportive team environment while helping maintain a healthy online community.

Essential Functions

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, train, coach, and mentor a team of social media moderators to deliver consistent, high-quality work.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, helping team members navigate complex questions, edge cases, and evolving platform policies.
  • Drive accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement across the team’s performance.
  • Manage team coordination, scheduling, communication, and resource allocation.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and team development initiatives.

Moderation & Content Oversight

  • Oversee the review and moderation of user-generated content (comments, replies, messages) in alignment with community guidelines and brand standards.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent enforcement of moderation policies.
  • Personally handle escalations from the Pending queue and resolve sensitive or complex issues with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Proactively research context when needed to make informed moderation decisions.
  • Develop, organize, and maintain internal resources (help center articles, saved replies, decision frameworks, playbooks) to improve team efficiency and consistency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Marketing, PR, Legal) to align moderation practices with broader company goals.
  • Attend meetings and represent the moderation team as needed.

Crisis & Reputation Management

  • Monitor emerging trends, sensitive topics, and potential risks to brand reputation.
  • Respond quickly and thoughtfully to misinformation, high-visibility issues, or escalating conversations.
  • Lead or support crisis response efforts and implement effective moderation strategies.
  • Continuously improve moderation workflows, escalation processes, and risk mitigation strategies.

Team Culture & Collaboration

  • Build and maintain a positive, respectful, and supportive team culture.
  • Create an environment where moderators feel comfortable asking questions, sharing feedback, and growing professionally.
  • Model professionalism, empathy, and resilience when handling challenging content.
  • Promote consistency, fairness, and thoughtful decision-making across the team.
  • Actively support team morale and engagement, particularly during high-volume or high-stress period

 

Competencies

  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making abilities, especially under pressure.
  • Deep familiarity with major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit, etc.).
  • Ability to analyze trends in user behavior and engagement.
  • Comfortable handling sensitive, offensive, or high-risk content.
  • Experience with moderation tools and AI-assisted platforms.

Availability

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
  • Hybrid schedule with a minimum of 2 days in office per week.

Physical demands – Must be able to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods of time.

Position type and expected hours of work – Regular full-time, 40 hours per week.

Required education and experience

  • Strong background in content moderation, social media management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience leading, coaching, or supervising a team (formal or informal leadership experience accepted).

Preferred education and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field, communications, or similar.
  • Familiarity with Angel Studios, the Angel Guild, and our body of work (films, series, and other projects).
  • Previous experience in moderation leadership or community management.

Work authorization – Must be authorized to work in the United States.
