As a Wildland Fire Dispatcher, you’ll provide calm coordination under pressure, deliver essential information to field resources, monitor all details, and play a critical role in protecting lives, property, and the communities you care about. Dispatchers are a dedicated member of the fire team, coordinating resources from inter-agency communications centers to meet the tactical requirements of wildland firefighters in the field. The dispatcher will primarily support wildland fire suppression and related activities, though the center may support all-risk incidents as needed. Dispatchers utilize critical thinking to resolve challenges in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, demonstrating a strong dedication to delivering exceptional service to the community. During the off-season, the dispatcher assists in the preparation of documentation related to State firefighter training and readiness activities. Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position: Operate telecommunications equipment and process information on computers utilizing various software and systems. Receive fire reports from the public, private, or government sources. Utilize critical thinking skills to analyze information for errors and complexity. Use maps to determine location, land status, access, and current fire information. Maintain comprehensive records of all communications and actions ensuring accuracy and clarity of intent. Dispatch resources according to policy to meet tactical requirements for aircraft, equipment, personnel, and supplies. Ensure timely and accurate completion of resource orders. Gather fire weather data to prepare a simple report for distribution. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly records reports, and summaries as directed.
