Great American's Reinsurance department ensures that Great American complies with all of the accounting requirements under its various reinsurance agreements. It also ensures that all internal and external financial statements fairly and accurately reflect all such reinsurance transactions in accordance with statutory accounting principles. In addition, the department is responsible for purchasing the Corporate Catastrophe Covers and for performing portfolio-level catastrophe modeling.
Our Reinsurance department is hiring an Accountant to join their team! This position will work in office 5 days a week and will have the opportunity to move to a hybrid schedule. Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on‑site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Compiles, consolidates, and analyzes accounting and finance information for the production of statements, schedules, filings, and reports. May assist in the preparation of more complex reports.
Assists in the day-to-day maintenance of standardized accounting reports.
Participates with the review and evaluation of existing procedures and operations in assigned area for management decision-making regarding improvements.
Reconciles and adjusts, as necessary, journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
Coordinates accounting matters and reporting with other departments, locations, divisions, and external customers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting is highly preferred or other related fields.
Prior accounting internship experience is preferred, but not required.
Experience with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, etc.).
