Position: Occupational Therapist

Location:  District Wide

Required Certification:  School Occupational Therapist

Start Date: August 31, 2026 

 

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our team. The School Occupational Therapist (OT) supports students in developing the skills needed to participate fully in their educational environment. This role focuses on helping students improve fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care abilities, and functional participation in school activities. The OT collaborates with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to promote student independence and access to learning.

Responsibilities:

Individualized Instruction:

  • Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy intervention plans based on student IEP goals
  • Provide direct therapy services in one-on-one and small group settings
  • Adapt instructional materials and classroom activities to meet diverse student needs
  • Support development of fine motor, sensory processing, self-regulation, and daily living skills
  • Utilize evidence-based strategies to promote student independence and participation in school tasks
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate therapeutic strategies into classroom instruction

Classroom Management:

  • Support the creation of structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environments
  • Recommend and implement sensory strategies and environmental modifications (e.g., seating, movement breaks)
  • Assist staff in managing student behaviors related to sensory, motor, or self-regulation needs
  • Provide guidance on use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology
  • Promote student engagement and safe participation in classroom routines and transitions

 

Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

  • Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations using standardized and informal assessments
  • Interpret assessment results to determine eligibility and service recommendations
  • Establish measurable IEP goals and track student progress regularly
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of services and student performance
  • Adjust therapy interventions based on data, progress monitoring, and team input
  • Participate in reevaluations and multidisciplinary team assessment

   Parent Communication:

  • Regularly communicates with parents and guardians regarding student achievements, challenges, and overall progress.
  • Fosters open and effective communication with parents through regular updates, parent-teacher conferences, and other communication channels.
  • Works collaboratively with parents to support students' academic and social development.

 

Professional Development:

  • Participate in ongoing professional learning to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices
  • Attend workshops, trainings, and conferences related to pediatric and school-based therapy
  • Collaborate with colleagues and multidisciplinary teams to enhance service delivery
  • Contribute to staff training on topics such as sensory processing, motor development, and adaptive strategies
  • Stay informed on changes in special education laws, regulations, and occupational therapy standards

 

Other:

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist
  • NYS Education certificate as a School Occupational Therapist
  • Experience working with children, preferably in a school or pediatric setting
  • Knowledge of special education laws and IEP processes
