About the Role

We are looking for a talented Assistant Editor to join our Dictionary Editorial Team who will be responsible for supporting the management of bilingual dictionary, grammar and ELT publication projects, working closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality output delivered on schedule.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Department through daily editorial work, including editing manuscripts, proofreading, keyboarding, checking the design and layouts of publications, and processing XML data;
  • Perform research for publication projects;
  • Manage project-based tasks over various titles, including to plan and implement schedules and workflows agreed by all parties;
  • Liaise with other branches/divisions of OUP when appropriate;
  • Coordinate with Sales and Marketing teams to promote publications, and/or the Oxford brand; and
  • Assist departmental administrative duties.

 

About You

Essential: 

  • A university degree in English, Linguistics, or a related discipline
  • Strong command of written English and Chinese, with excellent editing and proofreading skills
  • Highly proficient in Traditional and Simplified Chinese; mastery of Hanyu Pinyin
  • A high level of oral proficiency in Cantonese and mandarin Chinese
  • Good project management and organisational skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Effective communication and stakeholder coordination skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; technical skills in digital publishing, e.g. familiarity with XML, Python, etc

 

Desirable: 

  • Familiarity with editorial processes, publishing workflows, and style guidelines
  • Experience in academic or educational publishing
  • Knowledge of bilingual dictionary or grammar content development
