Key Responsibilities
The assistant will work on four primary projects:
- Conduct an initial review of academic and policy-oriented literature on child poverty in the U.S.
- Identify key themes, debates, and methodological approaches in the literature
- Summarize findings in a clear, organized format to support future research development
- Compile and maintain an annotated bibliography
- Assist in designing teaching materials, including lecture content, problem sets, and in-class activities
- Help develop data-focused lab assignments using real-world datasets
- Contribute to syllabus design, including learning objectives and course structure
- Provide feedback on clarity, accessibility, and student engagement
- Consolidate existing exam questions and homework problems from multiple sources into a cohesive, well-organized repository
- Edit and format materials for consistency in style, difficulty, and presentation
- Tag or categorize questions by topic, skill level, or learning objective to improve usability
- Conduct data cleaning, management, and analysis in Stata and R
- Support ongoing research on the relationship between fertility preferences and fertility outcomes in Tanzania
- Replicate and extend existing analyses as needed
- Produce tables, figures, and brief summaries of results
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and take initiative on open-ended tasks
- Basic proficiency in R and Stata, including data cleaning and simple statistical analysis
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly for summarizing complex material clearly
- Familiarity with core concepts in econometrics
- Ability to read, interpret, and synthesize empirical economics research
- Openness to feedback and willingness to revise work iteratively
Preferred Qualifications (not required)
- Prior experience with literature reviews or academic research assistance
- Experience working with survey or administrative data
- Interest in development economics, public economics, or applied microeconomics
- Experience designing or supporting instructional materials

Eligibility to Work
