Newmont’s Merian operation in Suriname is an open pit gold mine approximately 66km south of the town Moengo and 30 km north of the Nassau Mountains near the French Guiana. Newmont owns a 75 percent interest in the limited partnership and Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V., Suriname’s state-owned oil company, owns the remaining 25 percent interest.

Your impact

 

To manage fixed plant maintenance operations, optimize system performance, ensure reliability, and achieve sustainable operational goals. 

As part of our team you will

 

  • Perform inspections of fixed plant equipment to preemptively detect failures.
  • Lead preventive and corrective maintenance programs to minimize downtime. Includes collaborating with peer Superintendents to manage shutdowns, part management, SAP improvements, and the planning and implementation of specialized maintenance projects.
  • Ensure spare parts inventory is tracked to guarantee availability during maintenance.
  • Conduct post-maintenance audits to assess work quality and system performance. Assess maintenance data to recommend system upgrades or replacements.
  • Responsible for ensuring that appropriate internal methodologies, policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to across the Fixed Plant assets.
  • Organize shutdowns for comprehensive plant maintenance projects. Manage key shutdown maintenance, capital construction, and technical engineering contracts across Processing.
  • Formulate budgets for plant maintenance and guarantee cost-effective execution.
  • Work with engineering teams to synchronize maintenance goals with production targets.
  • Deliver training to team members on modern maintenance tools and methodologies. Develop an improvement culture by actively encouraging team members to participate in continuous improvement, capturing their initiatives, and providing feedback.
Prerequisites for your success in this role

 

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to think innovatively with well-developed time management and people management skills.
  • Capable of managing a professional team for a very large and complex processing plant and underground operations.
  • High level of communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong PC skills and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge and understanding of statutory regulations relevant to safety and environmental standards in the mining industry.
  • Proficiency in fixed plant environments on surface, mill, and underground.
  • Advanced proficiency in processing plant environments.
  • Strong understanding of reliability and maintenance management principles.
  • Strong working knowledge of budget and cost control in a process environment.
  • Advanced English (spoken and written), Dutch preferred, and a driver's license
Your work environment

 

This position is located at Merian at the project sites. Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment
The Merian mine is located in Northeastern Suriname, approximately 98 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Paramaribo and 60 kilometers south of Moengo.
Accommodation is in a camp/village environment near the workplace under a rotational roster (6 weeks on site and 3 weeks off) with additional work time as required to meet operational commitments.
Suriname has a tropical climate with dry and two rainy seasons with anticipated tropical rainfall of 1.5m to 2.5m of rain per year.
