About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose
To provide support to the Scheduling Team, this role is responsible for the effective planning, scheduling, and coordination of maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations within a gold mining environment. You will be part of a highly collaborative and supportive team, working in a positive and safety-focused environment
Essential Duties
- Devellop maintenance schedule (Future Work Program) in line with departmental utilisation targets for labour, materials, and services and given priorities/timing requirements, including preparation, publication, and distribution of next 1- 5 week’s schedule of maintenance and modular shutdowns.
- Manages and measures assigned teams/s backlog in conjunction with the relevant supervisor/s ensuring all completed works are closed off and all open works are correctly prioritised, have relevant required by and planned start/finish dates and the status is updated by relevant planning phases.
- Ensure work orders are properly scoped, resourced, and sequenced for efficient execution.
- Maintain and manage the maintenance planning system (e.g., SAP or similar CMMS)
- Effective communication with stakeholders & getting schedules out to execution team on time while achieving daily milestones.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture aligned with company and site standards
- Ensure all planned work complies with safety procedures, risk assessments, and permit systems
- Contribute to continuous improvement of safety systems and practices
Training & Experience
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification and/or equivalent industry experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of power generation plants and/or gold processing plant operations
- Proven experience in maintenance planning and scheduling within mining or heavy industry
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in CMMS (SAP preferred) and other relevant software systems
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with production and maintenance teams, with a strong focus on safety and operational coordination
- Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively in a remote site environment with a commitment to safety and continuous improvement
