SharePoint Information Architecture and Governance Lead
Job Description
THE COMPANY:
STACK INFRASTRUCTURE (STACK) provides digital infrastructure to scale the world’s most innovative companies. We are an award-winning industry leader in building, owning, and operating highly efficient, cost-effective wholesale, colocation, and cloud data centers. Each of our national facilities meets or exceeds the highest industry standards in all operational categories of availability, security, connectivity, and physical resilience.
STACK offers the scale and geographic reach that rapidly growing hyperscale and enterprise companies need. The world runs on data. Data runs on STACK.
THE POSITION:
We are seeking a SharePoint Information Architecture and Governance Lead to lead the technical design, governance, and development of our SharePoint Online platform across a global footprint. This role combines information architecture ownership, governance program execution, hands-on SharePoint Framework (SPFx) development, and ownership of the M365 backup platform. The ideal candidate will define enterprise taxonomy and metadata standards, drive permissions remediation and data governance through Microsoft Purview (as applied to SharePoint and OneDrive content), architect custom SPFx solutions, and manage AvePoint backup policies, recovery operations, and compliance retention. The role also includes evaluating emerging AI capabilities (Copilot for Microsoft 365, SharePoint Agents) to enhance content discovery and knowledge management. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Information Architecture & Content Strategy
Architect the enterprise-wide SharePoint Online information model, including site hierarchy, hub/spoke topology, content type inheritance strategy, and managed metadata term store design.
Define and enforce a global taxonomy framework aligned to business functions, ensuring consistent findability, compliance, and content lifecycle management.
Lead content audits across the existing SharePoint estate to identify and remediate redundant, outdated, and trivial (ROT) content with measurable cleanup targets.
Design metadata-driven navigation, enterprise search schemas, and content organization patterns that maximize adoption and self-service discovery.
Establish site provisioning standards, naming conventions, site lifecycle policies, and decommissioning procedures for SharePoint sites, Teams-connected sites, and OneDrive.
Governance, Compliance & Data Protection
Own the SharePoint Online governance program encompassing access reviews, unique permissions remediation, external sharing policies, site classification, and storage quota management.
Lead large-scale permissions remediation campaigns using PnP PowerShell audit scripts, automated reporting, and phased inheritance restoration plans.
Architect, implement, and continuously optimize Microsoft Purview data governance controls across SharePoint Online and OneDrive, including Sensitivity labels (manual and auto-labeling), Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies, Retention labels and retention policies.
Adaptive scopes for dynamic policy targeting based on metadata, user attributes, and site classification
Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Cyber Security teams to ensure governance policies satisfy regulatory requirements, including SOX, GDPR, and regional data residency mandates.
Develop governance playbooks, site owner training programs, and content steward enablement guides.
Define and monitor governance KPIs: permissions compliance rate, label adoption and coverage, DLP incident trends, sharing exposure, storage utilization, and inactive site counts.
Design and configure retention strategies aligned to regulatory, legal hold, and business lifecycle requirements, ensuring proper application of retention labels and policies across structured and unstructured content.
Develop and manage DLP policies to prevent data exfiltration across M365 workloads, including policy tuning, false-positive reduction, and incident response workflows.
Coordinate with the Senior Data Platform Engineer on enterprise-wide Purview policies spanning the broader data platform (structured data, endpoints, and non-M365 systems).
SharePoint Framework (SPFx) Development
Architect, develop, test, and deploy custom SPFx web parts, extensions, and application customizers using React, TypeScript, and the Microsoft Graph API.
Design reusable component libraries, modern page templates, and branded site experiences aligned with enterprise design standards and accessibility requirements.
Build SPFx solutions integrated with Microsoft Graph, Power Automate, Dataverse, and Azure services to deliver data-driven experiences: department dashboards, knowledge bases, project portals, and executive communication sites.
Implement PnP libraries and the PnP provisioning framework to accelerate development and enable repeatable site deployments.
Manage the SPFx solution lifecycle: source control (Azure DevOps Git), application-specific deployment pipelines using established CI/CD templates and standards, versioning, and automated testing.
M365 AvePoint or Other Backup Administration
Own the AvePoint or Other M365 backup platform end-to-end — configuration, policy management, monitoring, and recovery operations across Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, and Groups.
Define and maintain backup policies aligned with enterprise data retention requirements, SOX compliance controls, and business continuity objectives.
Perform and validate recovery operations (granular item-level, site-level, and full-tenant) in response to data loss incidents, ensuring RTO/RPO targets are met.
Monitor backup health, storage consumption, and job success rates; produce regular compliance reports for Audit and Compliance teams demonstrating backup coverage and recoverability.
Manage AvePoint platform upgrades, licensing, and vendor relationships in coordination with procurement and IT leadership.
