Job Description

Job Purpose

Are you ready to lead the charge in revolutionizing energy storage? At EnerSys, we don’t just build energy solutions — we empower entire industries to reach their full potential. We’re the global leader in stored energy systems, driving innovation for the most demanding applications, from satellites and submarines to forklifts, 5G networks, and beyond. Now, we’re looking for a dynamic Senior Electrical Systems Manager with deep experience in energy storage development and deployment to join our team and help create the future of energy storage.

The Senior Electrical Systems Manager is responsible for providing technical leadership and people management for all electrical engineering activities across Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), DC Fast Charging (DCFC), and related power conversion products. This role acts as the organization’s electrical subject matter expert (SME), with deep hands-on expertise in power system studies including arc flash analysis, grounding, protection coordination, and compliance with applicable electrical codes and standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of electrical and systems engineers.
  • Serve as the company-wide Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all electrical engineering-related topics providing cross-functional support.
  • Lead and review power system studies including short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash hazard analysis, grounding, harmonics, and load flow studies using tools such as ETAP or equivalent.
  • Establish electrical design standards, best practices, and design-for-safety guidelines across projects.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEC, UL, IEEE, utility requirements, and AHJ expectations).
  • Be a mentor and technical leader. You’ll not only lead projects but also nurture the growth of the engineers around you, helping them thrive both professionally and technically.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Direct and oversee electrical engineering activities across the full project lifecycle: concept, design, manufacturing, commissioning, and field support.
  • Lead the design and review of LV and MV electrical distribution systems (up to 1000V AC and up to 1500V DC).
  • Oversee specification, selection, and application of electrical equipment including power electronics, switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, relays, meters, cabling, busbars, and protection devices.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, controls, firmware, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure integrated system solutions.
  • Review and approve electrical schematics, layouts, harness designs, bills of material (BOMs), and manufacturing documentation.
  • Provide executive-level oversight and technical guidance for commissioning activities, testing, and validation of electrical systems.
  • Support construction and commissioning teams to quickly resolve critical electrical issues in the field.
  • Ensure commissioning procedures, test plans, and reports align with design intent, safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Champion electrical safety programs, safe work practices, and arc flash risk mitigation across projects and sites.
  • Act as the primary electrical technical interface for customers, utilities, independent engineers, vendors, and jurisdictional authorities.
  • Communicate complex electrical topics clearly to internal leadership, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Support customer requirements review, project risk assessments, and technical proposal development.

Travel required: On Demand to support manufacturing facilities, project sites, and customer locations.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience of progressive electrical engineering experience in power systems, energy storage, EV charging, or industrial power applications.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing teams.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience performing and reviewing arc flash calculations and power systems studies
  • Strong understanding of grounding systems, protection philosophy, and electrical safety principles.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, commissioning, and field deployment of electrical systems.
  • Experience in power electronics development and deployment.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred.
