Position Summary:  The Compounding Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the compounding schedule is met when the compounding manager delegates this duty. The duty also includes detailed knowledge of the water purification system and ensuring that all daily maintenance and monitoring of the water system is performed and documented, and all preventative maintenance is scheduled. This position also includes acquiring an understanding of the operating principals of all compounding equipment and directing the maintenance engineer to perform any PMs and repairs as necessary.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides firsthand practical knowledge of the compounding process to the compounding manager when needed for efficiency improvements and validating new batches.
  • Assists in the validation or scale-up of compounded bulk batches.
  • Ensures that the schedule of compounded bulk batches is met when delegated by the compounding manager and ensures that the bulk is manufactured according to customer specifications and also follows FDA, GMP, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ensuring that all documentation associated with compounding meets all FDA, GMP, and internal quality policies.
  • Ensures that compounding equipment is maintained and requests repair when necessary.
  • Ensures that the water purification system is operating within the quality guidelines established by Swiss American Products, Inc.
  • Ensures the scheduled preventative maintenance of the entire water purification and storage system.
  • Conducts, documents, and maintains daily checks and readings for water quality parameters.
  • Informs the quality department of any trending water quality parameters.
  • Provides suggestions and input for the improvement of the compounding process and water purification system when necessary.
  • Other duties may be assigned. 

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a sterile compounding pharmacy setting.
  • Strong understanding of aseptic technique and sterile compounding procedures.
  • Proficient in sterile compounding methodologies, including IV admixtures, chemotherapy, and hazardous drug handling.
  • Knowledge of USP and other relevant regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with pharmacists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical information, identify and troubleshoot problems, and implement solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and other relevant software.
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the relevant state pharmacy board (if applicable).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Pharmacy Technology, Chemistry).
  • Familiarity with pharmacy software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Practical knowledge of Lean Manufacturing fundamentals such as 5S, Kanban, Visual Systems.
