Amherst Middle School - Part Time Health Office Assistant
Amherst Middle School is seeking a compassionate, organized, and dependable Health Office Assistant to join our team. This position supports the school nurse and helps ensure the smooth and efficient operation of school health services while contributing to a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff.
Position Overview
The Health Office Assistant provides support to the school nurse by assuming duties that do not require full professional nursing skills or judgment. The successful candidate will enjoy working with middle school students, be comfortable multitasking in a busy environment, and maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Responsibilities
Student Health Support
- Staff the health office as needed in the absence of the nurse.
- Provide coverage when the nurse is attending to students or participating in meetings.
- Welcome and log students into the health office.
- Assist in triaging students in need of care.
- Maintain CPR and First Aid certification to provide minor first aid to students and staff.
Health Office Management
- Maintain a clean and organized health office.
- Clean and sterilize cots, ice packs, and warm packs after each use.
- Restock supplies and maintain inventory and reorder lists.
- Prepare and manage supplies for field trips.
- Assist with bathroom upkeep as needed.
Clerical and Attendance Duties
- Enter immunizations and health screenings into the student database.
- Maintain attendance records and verify student absences with families.
- Enter attendance information into computer systems.
- File and maintain confidential medical records.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; college degree preferred.
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a busy environment.
- Experience with data entry and basic computer applications.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- LNA or LPN licensure preferred, but not required.
- CPR and First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain certification).
