Job Description

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As an (Sr.) Electronic Engineer in the Advanced Development Group (ADG) at MKS, you will partner with Engineering, Applications, Sales and Customers to develop leading edge plasma power delivery systems in Power Solutions Rochester. In this role, you will report to the Manager of R&D in Rochester.

You Will Make an Impact Through:

  • Power Electronics Research (novel circuit topologies, magnetics, controls)

  • Switchmode RF power amplifier, power supply and inverter circuit/system design (including modeling/simulation, schematic capture and pc board layout)

  • Design and analysis of high-performance control systems for switchmode power converters and high efficiency RF amplifiers (Feedback, Feedforward, MIMO)

  • Validating performance in real-world situations (e.g. in a plasma processing environment)


Skills You Bring:

  • Broad professional objectives: deep knowledge in power and RF electronics with interests and curiosity in the adjacent fields of software, digital electronics, controls, physics

  • MS, PhD or equivalent and >3yrs experience in a power electronics-related field

  • Experience and interest with system and circuit simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, SPICE,  etc.)

  • Strong theoretical background in electronics and physics

  • Interest and experience in testing power electronics (e.g. oscilloscopes, network analyzers, power meters)

  • Basic understanding of control system theory

  • Basic understanding and/or interest in plasma processing


Preferred Skills:

  • Extreme curiosity and desire to learn new techniques/concepts

  • Structured problem solving skills (e.g. Kepner Tregoe problem-solving, 8D,  Fault Tree Analysis, etc.)

  • Writing skills (proposals, specifications, test reports, engineering analyses, etc.)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills (asking questions, leading discussions, empathy, teaching/explaining technical concepts)

  • Ability and desire to work in a team environment
