About the Role

Introduction – the ‘why’

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the production lifecycle for OUP’s Education products, contributing to the creation of high‑quality learning materials used across global markets. You will work at the intersection of editorial, production, technology, and supplier management—an environment that encourages growth, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Joining Technology & Operations means being part of an organisation that values excellence, innovation, and accessibility in publishing. The role is ideal for individuals seeking to deepen their expertise in XML‑first production, multi‑format delivery, and supplier‑led workflows. With ongoing transformations in publishing technologies and workflows, this is an exciting time to influence efficiency, quality, and digital-readiness across content delivery.

Opportunity – the ‘what’

As a Production Lead, you will:

  • Oversee XML-first typesetting from handover of developed content through to print‑ready PDFs, eBook formats, and XML archiving.
  • Manage core offshore suppliers, ensuring service quality, accountability, and adherence to KPIs and SLAs.
  • Liaise with editors, designers, and typesetters to support interpretation of complex content, artwork placement, digital expectations, and queries.
  • Drive efficiency across schedules, costs, and production processes.
  • Triage and resolve supplier queries around content, artwork, design, XML capture, and accessibility, working with in-house P&CO and Editorial teams.
  • Engage with adjacent teams such as Procurement, Design, Content Engineering, Content Data Strategy, and Digital Content Controllers.
  • Manage budgets, advise Publishing teams on costings, and monitor supplier performance.
  • Ensure production standards, accessibility requirements, and technical specifications are fully met.
  • Identify risks to timelines and quality, implementing mitigation plans.
  • Stay current on emerging publishing technologies and workflows.
  • Mentor and coach suppliers to improve capability, quality, and efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement and take part in business process transformation initiatives.
  • Conduct quality assurance across XML, print, eBook, and multi‑format outputs.

Your work directly impacts OUP’s ability to deliver accurate, accessible, and high‑quality educational products on time, benefiting learners and educators worldwide.
