The Y's boxing program welcomes everyone, promoting confidence, discipline, and fitness while building community bonds. Through a blend of boxing, self-defense, and martial arts, participants develop both physically and mentally. The instructor plays a key role in guiding and mentoring with values like respect and perseverance. Together, they create a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
How You Will Make an Impact (Essential Functions)
- Develop and implement an age-appropriate boxing and martial arts curriculum for participants.
- Conduct engaging and challenging training sessions focused on boxing techniques, self-defense, and character development.
- Ensure the safety of participants by enforcing proper techniques, providing adequate supervision, and maintaining a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Motivate and encourage youth to set and achieve personal goals, both inside and outside the gym.
- Foster positive relationships with participants, parents, and staff members to support the overall success of the program.
- Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, progress, and behavior.
- Continuously assess and adjust the program curriculum to meet the evolving needs and interests of participants.
- Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.
- Lead by example the Y’s mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.
- Become an Ambassador of the Y’s work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Community Enterprise
- Previous experience as a boxing instructor or martial arts instructor.
- Strong knowledge of boxing techniques, self-defense, and martial arts principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate a diverse group of students.
- Demonstrated ability to create and deliver dynamic and age-appropriate training sessions.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
- Additional certifications in martial arts disciplines such as Tae Kwon Do or mixed martial arts are preferred.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus.
