Why Your Role Matters  

The Zumba/Dance Fitness Instructor leads fun, energetic, and engaging dance-based cardio classes designed to improve fitness, coordination, and overall well-being. Classes are structured to accommodate multiple skill levels and emphasize movement, rhythm, and motivation. The instructor serves as a positive role model, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment that aligns with the YMCA’s mission and community values. 

How You Make an Impact 

  • Design and lead dance-based fitness classes with choreographed routines suitable for participants of all levels. 
  • Provide modifications to accommodate different abilities and fitness levels. 
  • Maintain participant safety while encouraging proper form, posture, and movement. 
  • Cultivate a fun, energetic, and motivating class atmosphere that encourages member participation and retention. 
  • Prepare and maintain the fitness area, including sound systems, props, and other equipment, ensuring cleanliness and safety. 
  • Promote YMCA programs, events, and wellness initiatives to class participants. 
  • Complete required attendance, incident reports, or other documentation. 
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and fitness training to stay current on dance fitness trends. 
  • Lead by example the Y’s mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests. 
  • Become an ambassador of the Y’s work and culture by sharing the story of who we are as an organization and brand. 
  • Complete other duties as assigned. 

 

What You Bring to the Y 

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. 
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent 
  • Certified Zumba Instructor or equivalent dance fitness certification. 
  • Proven experience leading high-energy, music-driven fitness classes. 
  • Strong understanding of choreography, rhythm, and safe movement techniques. 
  • Must have beginner-level fitness skills, including 0–1 year of previous fitness/teaching experience, and must audition for Health & Wellness Director/Coordinator before teaching. 
  • Current First Aid/ CPR Certifications preferred (must be obtained within 60 days of employment. 
  • Must be available to teach Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-10:45am
