The Opportunity

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Service Engineer – Transformer Services to join its team in the Abu Dhabi, UAE. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide maintenance, installation, testing, commissioning, repair, and troubleshooting services for power transformers and associated equipment across utility and contractor sites. The successful candidate will support transformer assembly activities, OLTC/RTCC maintenance and overhauling, mechanical and pressure testing, as well as transformer insulating oil treatment and passivation activities. Experience with transformer control and monitoring systems is essential, while knowledge of transformer digitalization will be considered an advantage. Reporting to the Field Service Manager/Operations Manager, this position is ideal for a technically skilled professional who enjoys independent, diverse, and solution-oriented work while contributing to service excellence as part of a globally operating Service Team

How you will make an impact

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of transformer maintenance services and service portfolios.

  • Independently perform installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities for transformers and associated equipment.

  • Provide on-site and remote technical support for transformer installation, commissioning, and routine maintenance activities, identify technical issues, and conduct analysis to determine effective solutions across different service categories.

  • Ensure all required accident prevention measures are followed and comply with guidelines for working on energized system components.

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with safety standards and industry-accepted practices.

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships by understanding customer requirements and providing specialized technical support and solutions.

  • Recommend immediate and future service requirements to customers and provide relevant feedback to the Service Sales team.

  • Act as the OEM representative during customer interactions, ensuring all necessary tools, equipment, and spare parts are prepared and the scope of work is clearly understood before service execution.

  • Verify that all required job documentation is available and participate in site briefings with the Service Manager, Head of Department, or Supervisor regarding expected site conditions and work requirements.

  • Prepare accurate service reports, timesheets, and delivery notes, ensuring customer approval and sign-off where required.

  • Serve as the voice of the customer by communicating feedback and field observations to internal engineering and quality teams.

  • Support the planning, execution, and delivery of transformer maintenance site activities.

  • Effectively coordinate with internal teams, feeder factories, service departments, customers, and subcontractors to ensure successful project execution.

  • Demonstrate leadership, collaboration, and a team-oriented approach while maintaining a high level of self-discipline, quality, and accuracy in all deliverables.

  • Update installed base records to reflect modifications and changes implemented at customer sites.

  • Develop long-term customer relationships by understanding customer requirements and applicable regulations, responding promptly to issues, and leveraging in-depth technical knowledge to promote product lifecycle management solutions.

  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance requirements at power plant and substation sites and support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • A bachelor’s degree or Diploma in engineering field is required

  • 6- 10 years of experience in transformer services, including installation, testing, commissioning, OLTC repair and maintenance, transformer protection and control systems, monitoring and measurement devices, and maintenance of transformers used in industrial and utility applications.

  • Strong understanding of transformer servicing, maintenance, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair activities, with the flexibility to travel as required.

  • Proficient in computer applications, with excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Collaborative team player with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience with digital technologies and transformer digitalization solutions is considered an advantage
